I'm 22 years old currently taking a hiatus from MSU, where I study English with a concentration in Creative Writing and a double major in Arts/Humanities. I have a great interest in traveling the states and eventually the planet. I love to see the ways people interact with each other in different environments and to collect these unique fruits of travel which transcend their own social and geographical habitats to reveal the universal human condition.

Warum ich bei Couchsurfing bin

I'm on Couchsurfing to widen my mind, expand my atlas, meet new people, hear new music, and feel new feelings. I bought a passenger van five months ago and have just recently completed making the sufficient adjustments to feel comfortable calling it my rolling home.

Interessen

Music - listening, practicing, composing, recording and performing. I am primarily a guitarist/vocalist but in the past two years have dedicated a great amount of time to experimenting with percussion; I am by no means a trained drummer but I can hold a beat. I write my own music and lyrics and love to perform both at local venues and on the street busking. I am excited to continue recording my songs and to find those with whom I can musically mesh and collaborate to create something new.

The Written Word - as a creative writing student and aspiring writer I have written short stories, poems, both in and out of university and the occasional mandatory play. I am also interested in the niche of songwriting which I feel has a less academic and more pop-cultural undertone than the writing of literature, poetry or drama.

Film/Photography - I have also studied photography as part of my Arts/Humanities major at MSU. The techniques of mise-en-scene both in film and photography have shown me that the camera does not exist to capture an image, but to capture a feeling. As for film I have no problem with watching an old black and white movie and after that watching a new movie with computer generated images. However, I try to avoid films in which the greater importance is placed upon visual dazzle than real storytelling.

Nature - I can't remember the last time I was swimming and that is a problem, but besides that I love it all. However, having spent the majority of my winters in Michigan I have been subjected to a frigid bitch of a Mother Nature and would gladly become a snowbird.

Musik, Filme und Bücher

I listen to everything from 1920's and 30's jazz blues and country western to hip hop. I favor things on the chiller side, and would describe my taste in music and style of music as closer to jam than shred. If it has soul and original energy I can get into it. I can dig some electronic music as long as it is not too abrasive, and does not completely eliminate the presence of a live musician.

As part of my Arts/Humanities major at MSU I worked for a semester at Peckham Incorporated in Lansing, Michigan which specializes in providing employment for the physically/mentally/occupationally disabled. I was involved with the Art@Work program, which gave employees the resources and encouragement to spend part of their lunch break in an art studio and create a self-portrait to be adorned to the walls of the work-floor. http://artfrompeckham.com/

Though my theoretical knowledge of music is at best underdeveloped, if you express an interest in learning something from me whether it be: basics, chords, songs, select scales, maintenance of instrument, etc, I will gladly share what I know with you.
