About Me
https://www.facebook.com/taylor.o.mendelsohn
Currently living in New Orleans - have been since 2016. I split my time working as a tutor at an after school college prep program for underserved youth and as a mechanic at a small bicycle shop. So I can help you with your homework and then fix your bike! NOLA is great in that it is always active and fun but also has a slower pace of life compared to some other places.
My favorite thing to do in a new city is to get a little lost. Going to shows, museums or other entertainment options is great; but I often like to simply wander my way through various neighborhoods. I love seeing how different cities portray themselves architecturally. I have criss-crossed America a few times and have been abroad a few times as well. Certainly have a something of a travel bug.
I dabble with guitar, piano, ukulele and banjo. I dig sculpture and always have a couple projects going.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I really haven't done much with couch surfing before. I made a profile in 2009 before a trip to Europe and then kind of forgot about it for a decade. Getting back involved because it seems like a great community of travelers.

Music, Movies, and Books
Local bands in Boston still have a space in my heart, Pile of course being the big name there. The Wrens are probably one of my favorite of all time. William Onyeabor for the sunny hang outs. Dick Dale and other surf rockers when I'm dodging cars on my bike.
A great book: "Love in the Time of Cholera" by Gabriel Garcia Marquez. I read it kind of recently and thought it was great. So I put it here. Also just finished "The Yiddish Policeman's Union" by Michael Chabon which was great. The Neapolitan series by Elena Ferrante was fabulous. I'm a New Yorker addict.
Favorite Movies: Hmm, either El Topo or Starship Troopers.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I once made a sculpture of my body by wrapping myself in packaging tape (it was for an art class). The "ghost form" of me now hangs in my parents' house.
Teach, Learn, Share
I guess I'm sort of a "jack of all trades." So to a fault I am interested in anything anyone has to share and enjoy reciprocating that as well. I like working with my hands, fixing things up rather than buying new objects etc. I was doing some glass blowing a few years ago for a while which was totally awesome and really gave me a greater appreciation for the material. I can do a little MIG welding. I can drive stick.
