About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To be, to learn, to grow, to discover the truth in questions as much as in the answers. To give and receive as much love as I can.

ABOUT ME

My colleagues and I own a couple of web hosting companies. We also do custom programming and have a digital marketing service. If you want to know more, check out my website at http://www.thosbconner.com

PHILOSOPHY

I'm still figuring it out but I suppose the working model would be something like this- "I'm not entitled to anything. Even if I don't just give it all away in one day, I need to be a good steward of what I have and I need to respect and honor all.

I've stopped trying to define God and started identifying "Godness" wherever I see love, peace, mercy, forgiveness, truth, community, grace, healing, reconciliation, generosity, unselfishness, hope and beauty. I am most familiar with the teachings and life of Jesus because of my Baptist upbringing but I honor and value all religions which embrace peace and love for everyone.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Well heck, how do I participate? I guess I participate by welcoming a stranger in my home and showing them a little hospitality. I'd really prefer to host travelers who are verified but I can consider exceptions.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've only hosted. Have not had the opportunity to surf....yet.

Interests

I run a little, bike a little, watch movies, enjoy all kinds of music, mentor youth and young adults, volunteer at a peace and justice-focused church and enjoy Vanderbilt sports. I'm trying to do a lot of work on my family history. I really got more into it after my mom died. Having lost both of my parents, I'm really searching to connect with my family's past.

Music, Movies, and Books

Most any kind of music. My colleagues think my tastes are eclectic. To test this, I just did a random sampling on my iPhone and these songs came up:

Gentle on my Mind - Glen Campbell;
Stella by Starlight - Maynard Ferguson;
Sell Me - Eartha Kitt
Sorrowfree - Kate Campbell
My Old School - Steely Dan
Homeward Bound- Simon & Garfunkle;
Wonderful Remark - Van Morrison;
Pinball Wizard - The Who;
Pennies From Heaven - Louis Prima;
Lover Man - Billie Holiday;
You Don't Have to Say You Love Me - Dusty Springfield;
Burning Down the House - Talking Heads (PS- Please don't burn down my house);
Let's Dance to Joy Division - The Wombats;
Vier letzte Lieder: IV. Im Abendrot - Jessye Norman

I'm kind of surprised nothing from Mr. Sinatra or Mr. Ellington showed up.

Movies? Like them all.

Books? I need to read more of those suckers but I've most recently been reading the adventures of Sherlock Holmes.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Oh, not much. I've run a few marathons, NYC being the last one (2008). I've been to Cuba which is rare for a US American. I've met Rev. Jim Lawson, whom Martin Luther King, Jr. described as "the greatest teacher of nonviolence in America." Have met several Nobel Peace Prize winners and seen the Dalai Lama and Desmond Tutu. I spent a few days hanging out with Oscar Arias, former president of Costa Rica and recipient of the 1987 Nobel Peace Prize.

Teach, Learn, Share

Teach that everyone is beloved and diversity is beautiful.

Learn to live with hope and empathy. Try to speak only when what I have to say is true, kind, and helpful. Imagine a better world where peace prevails and white men aren't in charge of everything.

Share everything I can.

Countries I’ve Visited

China, Cuba

Countries I’ve Lived In

United States
