About Me

CURRENT MISSION

TO BE A HUMAN BEING, NOT A HUMAN DOING, in other words, to relax more into being fully myself in the present moment.

ABOUT ME

I am a teacher and a mom. I am 50 yo and married to my husband Alan for 26 years. I love music, love to play my guitar and ukulele, love to learn anything new. Always learning, sometimes teaching. This past year I got certified in Astrology. We have three children, ages 24, 22, and 17. The older boys are on their own and our daughter in high school still lives with us. We both motorcycle and took our first big group ride to Texas Hill Country in 2022.

I primarily grew up in the Houston, Texas area, but my father and grandparents all traveled throughout the world, living and working in over 80 countries overseas. I loved hearing their stories growing up and travel abroad still fascinates me.

I love good conversation with different people from different walks of life and I love sharing stories about what people have learned and seen in their life travels - it is a form of vicarious travel.

PHILOSOPHY

I like the 4 agreements book by Don Miguel Ruiz:

With my students that I teach, my philosophy is - every day is a new day. We all make mistakes so there is nothing to forgive, we just keep learning.

AS a person, I am continually trying to practice Don Miguel Ruiz' 4 Agreements:

1. Be impeccable with your word.
2. Assume nothing.
3. Always do your best.
4. Don't take anything personally. (This is the hardest one for me - STILL.)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I joined CS the summer of 2008 when I heard about it from a friend of who was from The Netherlands who came to visit our school in Texas that stayed with a CS'r. So far now I have had a few couch surfing experiences that were so much fun I can't wait to do it again. I have now hosted a few times too and enjoyed that also very much. I have really truly enjoyed the conversations and experiences of meeting people outside of my immediate circle. Also, because of my job I tend to be very sheltered from the rest of the world as a teacher stuck always in the classroom and the routines of school life, esp. isolated from the rest of the adult world, so it helps expose me to new people and situations, new interests and ways of thinking. It is good for me to meet people from different walks of life as much as possible to expand my world view and experiences.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Most recently stayed with Gary in London, Arkansas. I stayed with Joanna and Paulo in Sacramento, Tara in Philidelphia, and Sandy and Ron in New Hampshire. Loved each experience. I began hosting in 2011. I really enjoyed it and so did my family. We look forward to hosting again. I took a break from hosting after my Dad died and the turbulent teen years with my family but now that my home life is more settled again, I feel ready I could host a bit.

Music, Movies, and Books

I try to participate in life rather than media. I like poetry, and I write a little.

I like a wide variety of music but am getting more mellow. We just went to see Tedeshi Trucks this week in concert. Great music! I love to listen to good acoustic guitarists since I play a little myself. Acoustic guitar music, some alternative, some pop, I learn what my own children introduce to me now.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

The most amazing thing I have ever done is give BIRTH!

Teach, Learn, Share

I have had the life-changing experience of co-founding two different schools.

I can teach a beginner some guitar, can definitely teach anyone to play a ukulele. I would call myself an intermediate player, though.

Alternative Education : Montessori, Waldorf, Sudbury, Unschooling, Conventional Homeschooling

What I Can Share with Hosts

Experiences, conversations, stories, playing music, playing cards, visiting my home town, I know a lot about TEXAS HISTORY and can help explain this place to outsiders.

Countries I’ve Visited

France, Italy, Mexico, United States

Countries I’ve Lived In

United States
