About Me

On a round-the-world trip, mainly camping and hiking, before I emigrate to I don't know where yet...

Started my trip in Puebla, Mexico at the wedding of a friend I met in traveling in London. Then worked my way up the pacific coast through California, Oregon and Washington. Now I'm in Japam for the Rugby World Cup!!

In Ireland, I worked as an economist in government focusing on health policy which I really loved, but I've obviously taken break from for now. When I emigrate I want to work in this area again and see how health systems work in other countries.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I really don't feel like I've been in a country until I've met, chatted to or in some way engaged with people from there!

Interests

I'm rediscovering my love of reading on this trip. Well, not so much rediscovering as discovering I have so much more time to do it. I've read Heart of Darkness, half of Homo Deus, Normal People and a book on the neuroplasticity of the brain "The Brain That Changes Itself" and I've downloaded but not yet read the Man Booker prize winner this year Milkman set in Northern Ireland.

Really want to get out into the wilderness on some multi-day hikes on this trip. Did quite a lot in Chile, but that was years ago so still consider myself a beginner.

Really quite love dancing.

Tend to find myself getting into a lot of deep conversations about other peoples interests/expertise. Can't resist asking all the questions about their topi that I don't have time to learn myself.

Music, Movies, and Books

Reading: Home Sapiens, Amongst Women, Tom Sawyer, A Portrait of an Artist as a Young Man, Harry Potter, Wheel of Time, 3 books of Game of Thrones (waiting until he finishes the series),

Like pretty much all music but generally go through phases. Listening to a lot of Hip Hop these days e.g. IAMDDB. System of a Down would be my favourite band. Holy night, my favourite song.

Not watching too many movies or tv since I started travelling. Avatar the Last Airbender, Pride and Prejudice, Peaky Blinders, The Wire, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia and more...
