Hi! My name is Terry Taewan Jung from Busan, South Korea. I am majoring Police Administration in Yongin University located in Yongin, Seoul. My dream is to become a police officer. As a way to approach closer to my dream, I decided to serve 2 years-long compulsory Korean military service as Auxiliary Police; auxiliary police assist Korean police force in many different areas such as traffic control, security for major events and VIPs, crime prevention etc. I am finally going to complete my military duty this October! Since I went to Puil foreign language high school, I've been studying English for the day to travel abroad. I cannot wait to finally start my first trip to Europe!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

This July, I had an opportunity to work for Gwangju Universiade 2015, a global sports event held under International University Sports Federation, as security police force. My job was to accompany athletes from their lodgings to the stadium. At first, I was a bit nervous to meet foreign athletes during my duty. I haven't had much experience talking with foreigners in my life. Surprisingly, those athletes were very approachable. They gave me big smiles when I greeted them with their languages. We had very good conversations and I will never forget this experience. Through this trip, I want to be an initiator to make new foreign friends, experience culture, and learn various perspectives of living this world.

Interests

My hobby is to write Korean calligraphy. It is interesting to see how the same words can be written differently depending on the place I write and the mood I am having. I want to share the beauty of Korean handwriting. Oh, I really love Christmas carols!! It makes me feel calm and excited at the same time. While traveling Europe, I am going to check out as many famous Christmas markets as I can!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

One time, me and my team members received a report of a missing man. My team has been searching the man for 3 days. Finally, we succeeded in tracking his phone with the police GPS system. With the help of a helicopter, we found the man's car in the middle of the mountain. I instinctively felt he must be near by. Soon after, I was so shocked to find the dead man hanging on a tree. It was my first time seeing a hanged person. He was exactly the same age as my father. I wondered how much pain and struggles the dead man had to go through, making him give up not only his life but also his wife and children. Looking at the man's family breaking down at his funeral, I thought of my father who has been sacrificing for me and my family. I promised myself that I will live a life of gratitude and kindness.
