About Me

Hello Hello --
I am currently an educational nomad. In the past few years, I have studied in England, the UK, Estonia, Greece, and currently China -- but my roots rest in Newfoundland, Canada.

I'm outgoing, open-minded, adventurous, and adaptable - I am equally comfortable being the life of the party or listening to someone's life story. I have a deep interest in cultures, especially music (I have been playing in bars and such since I was 16).

I'm well-traveled and well-read, but not an insufferable bore or a know it all. I travel for new experiences, and the joy of meeting new people.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Because people are the best part of any place. I love a good waterfall, or especially a crashing ocean, but it is through connecting with local people that you understand why it matters.

Life is more fun with company.

Interests

Music -- guitar, drums, bass, mandolin, terrible piano, etc...
Conversation -- people who have developed their own understanding of the world, and like to share it, maybe over a beverage or two.
Local Favourites -- I don't travel to see what's on the McDonald's menu in every country. Take me to a hole-in-the-wall that the locals love, and I'll eat what you eat.

Music, Movies, and Books

For music, I love it all, from Bach to Bad Religion, but my heart lies with the Rolling Stones.

When it comes to movies, I like the unpredictable, so let's say Wes Anderson.

With books, while I love a classic Hemingway or Hesse, I get most fired up by a good biography -- it helps me turn a figure into a human.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Well, last week I ate scorpions on the edge of the South China sea - does that count? This section feels braggy - let's move on.

Teach, Learn, Share

I have lectured at Universities in Europe and in China, and taught music off and on since I was 15. I love all three of teaching, learning, and sharing -- that's why I still do all three everyday.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can be as independent or co-dependent as you like. I can cook, clean, and entertain, if that's what you are into - or I can stay out of your hair while you do your thing, and I'll find my own way. I can share whatever I have, but it's cool if you don't want to take it.

Countries I’ve Visited

Belgium, Czech Republic, France, Latvia, Lithuania, Morocco, Scotland, Spain, Turkey, United States
