Hi everyone! My name is Tess and I am an American from North Carolina studying in Northern Italy. I have been living in Verona since January, 2017, within which time I have managed to fall deeply in love with Europe and the many cultures and languages it holds. I love dancing, traveling, and meeting new people. I am studying Languages for Tourism and International Commerce, am fluent in Italian, and have started learning German this year. Between studying, I zip away on the weekends to adventure and visit new places as much as I can. In the 2 years that I have been here I have been doing my own version of "couchsurfing" by making international friends wherever they pop up and then visiting them when I get the opportunity! These friendships are some of the most precious things I have gained in my adult life.

Por qué estoy en Couchsurfing

I have always heard almost strictly positive things from my friends that use Couchsurfing around the world! When I travel, I always opt for the experiences and activities that will give me a more local experience rather than a touristy one because I find that it offers me a much more authentic and often more enjoyable/yummy experience! Nobody knows better than the locals, so what better way to travel than using a platform like Couchsurfing to meet and stay with some. I am very passionate about people and love talking (just ask the fruit seller down the street from my house, the baker below me apartment, my favorite butcher in town... anyone will tell you I love to socialize haha!)

I, like most people I think, love music. Music motivates me, has the power to change my mood, inspire ideas and abstract conversations. I grew up with the artists like John Denver, James Taylor (we have the same birthday so the union was inevitable), Sam Cooke, and General Johnson, but enjoy a large range of music from Indie to Classical Rock, Musicals, jazz, and silly songs. Some of my favorite artists over the past few years have included The Avett Brothers, The Head and the Heart, Rufus Wainwright, The Weepies.

In January of 2017, when I was 19, I moved to Italy for what I thought was only a 5 month study abroad period, but the years go on and I still haven't moved back to America.

I used to compete in International Latin Ballroom dancing as well as American Rhythm.

I am a very open person and love learning. Every person has their own story and wealth of experiences to share and I so enjoy exchanging stories and experiences. If you speak one of the languages I speak or am learning, I am always enthusiastic to practice!
