About Me

Hello! I am a particle physicist making a career change into data science. I'm moving from Davis CA to the Bay Area in the fall, and I'm really excited about it! I lived in Palo Alto for a year in a half as a guest researcher at Stanford about 4 years ago and can't wait to get back to the area.
I love to talk about current events and science, and if I find a willing conversationalist I'm up for philosophizing late into the night.
Places I have lived: Minnesota, New Orleans, DC area, Indiana, California. California is the best and if I have it my way I'm staying here.
I'm an avid dancer and love to go out dancing salsa, tango, swing, or blues.
Wine and beer enthusiast. One day I'll make enough money to buy fancy wine. I used to brew beer and one day I want to start doing that again too.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm doing a bootcamp program for data science in Palo Alto and looking to save some money :) I'm keeping my place in Davis and trying to avoid paying rent in two places!

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: I'm a dancer so this effects my music tastes; salsa, timba, nuevo tango, big band blues, and of course New Orleans brass funk
Movies: Not a big movie watcher but I'm trying to catch up on the classics; most recently I watched Apocalypse now.
Books: lots! I try to read a variety; right now I'm reading a bunch of books that I might give me insights into my future career as a data scientist, so Freakanomics, Naked Statistics, and The Four Hour Workweek.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Not really an amazing thing that I have done, but rather a unique situation that I was in - I was once trapped underground in a salt mine during a mine fire with 80 miners and a huge store of transuranic radioactive waste left over from the cold war. I thought that I was going to die underground and all of those old men would be the last people that I would ever see. We all survived.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you some basic salsa, bachata, tango, or East coast swing steps! I can also cook delicious stir fry, green curry, and lentil soup.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Good conversation over drinks.

Countries I’ve Visited

Brazil, France, Germany, Italy, Peru, Switzerland
