My name is Aidan Au. I was born and grew up in Hong Kong. I am the only person in my family in United States. Coming from a humble family, my first time on a plane was actually in my late teens. It was a one-way ticket to United States. From then, I started calling the red white and blue my home for years.

In just shy of 5 years, I moved from East Coast to Midwest and lately West Coast, for school and day job I experienced 3 out of 4 time zones and moved 10 times. However, moving a lot doesn’t mean travelling a lot. Until I found a website that enable me to travel with great deals, getting more bang for my bucks. I travel to distention that I can get the most out of airfare. No matter where I go, after I go, I feel more refreshed than before.

我为什么加入 Couchsurfing

I used to stay in hotels or hostels when I first started travelling. I knew that something was missing, that is, the fact that I was surrounded by travelers!

There is nothing wrong to associate ourselves with like-minded people. In fact, most of the time we are even better off doing that, as we are the average of the five people we spend the most time with. However, when it comes to travelling to a new place, I have another point of view.

People who live there are an integral part of the city.

I treasure an authentic travel experience while interacting with locals. Only by doing that can I immerse myself in a new culture and perspective. I would be more thankful to where I am situated now and be more respectful towards others, and become a more well-rounded individual. Most importantly, I can find the ins and outs of a city that people don't necessarily find on Lonely Planet.

Traveling with fellow travelers is great, but there's a certain harmony to seeing a place through a local’s perspective, someone else's eyes. Someone who makes you a better you. That's true friendship. That’s what Couch Surfing is about – making interesting friends in the world. What better way is there to live?
