About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Travel, Relax and Learn!

ABOUT ME

A bit about me:

I play music in a local band and it has been a big part of my life over the past couple of years. I know, I know... everyone plays in a band! It's true, but a large portion of my friends I have met through playing local shows and a really great music community has formed. Other than playing in the band, I love to be physically active. I like to run, bike and swim- perferably in warm weather but living in Canada, that's not always the case.

I think that positive optimism is an important trait that a person should have. With that in mind, I constantly try to incorporate this mindset in my day to day life. Whether it be planning a trip or giving a friend advice, I find that adopting this mindset makes any situation manageable.

One of the best ways to challenge yourself (and have oh so much fun!) is through travel. So I have tried to get my fair share in over the past couple years. I have been to anywhere from Cambodia and El Salvador to Alabama and Saskatchewan and I want to see more! I have a few travel plans up my sleeve this year one of which is to bicycle from my home city of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada to the southern tip of Argentina.

I think that life should be a process, which means that it should be enjoyed each and everyday. So that means I like to have fun and inject everyday with excitement. I get new muses all the time and love to be inspired. Spontaneity is key!

PHILOSOPHY

Always enjoy the process. If you're looking to arrive at happiness it's not going to be as great as you thought it was. And secondly it's only going to half of the joy you'd have if you would have enjoyed the process.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Right now I'm traveling to South America so I'm currently surfing around from place to place. I'm new to the site and have hosted people in other forms. I'm a believer about this site and when I get back my couch will be used frequently.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

So far I've only had one couchsurfing experience in Cochrane. It was unbelievable. I staye with a guy who was an avid hiker. I was just bicycling through to a place called Canmore and not only did he host me. The next day we loaded my bicycle into his JEEP and hiked a glacier! Talk about hospitality

Interests

I like to try to think outside the box. So in order that make my life engaging I choose to constantly push myself. Right now I would have to say that being physical is my focus. I've entered in a bunch of running races around my city and really enjoy the experience.

I like to be part of something special and really like pushing the status quo. Right now I'm planning my bicycle trip but whether it being a part of a humanitarian group or being in a band I like to put all my heart and efforts into it.

Right now I'm content in having a "calm before the storm" because in the build up to the trip I have to be sendentary, conscious with money and focused on that task at hand.

So right now I spend my time hanging out with my good friends and merely enjoying the simple life.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I'm an avid cyclist. And in the harsh Canadian winters it is a badge of honour riding your bicycle in -32 degree Celsius. Last year was the final year of my undergraduate and I had a class where I knew no one. I sat beside a guy and he said "You're pretty crazy for biking in the winter." I felt pretty cool and said something full of pride, I can't really remember exactly. Needless to say, we became friends and were partners for a project. 2 months later he said "You're still biking? You really are tough!". I said "Oh yeah biking is great! Do you like to bike?"

So this is where the moment of awe sunk in. He said "Oh ya biking is great, actually my brother and I biked from here to Argentina."

My mind was blown instantly, but I was also inspired. He showed me a video on the internet of their trip and it was like a shot to the brain where my perspective changed. I liked the fact that this guy when I first met him didn't brag about his past experiences and that he was so humble. It was a great learning experience and something that I try to incorporate into my personality. And guess what? I'm going to do the same journey as him.

Another moment that shaped me as a person was when I found skateboarding and the drums. They were at two different points in my life but I remember the feeling being the same. Skateboarding combines both athleticism and creativity. It's less of a sport and more of a lifestyle. A lifestyle of free thinking and taking the path less traveled. The drums were more of the same, it has an element of physicality but is a little more creative. Both of them were a way to express myself growing up.

Teach, Learn, Share

Something that I could teach/share with people is really cut out things in life that hold you back. I sold almost everything I own and am now on the road. I was a University student who dumpster dived to save on money. I always say, decide what to be and go be it!
