being alive! estar - y ser - viva! :)
currently: i'm a teaching assistant in a project-based preschool classroom. we focus on student-driven investigation and hands-on learning. i'm also starting a master's in recreation and park management so that i can continue pursuing my interest in nature play and outdoor learning for children. in the past, i've been an environmental educator, international trip leader, Spanish teacher, blogger/poet (boneyardcreek.wordpress.com), standup comedian.
we are here to expand ourselves as much as we can. It shouldn't stop with you, it should expand out from you. you use what you learn and experience about the world to identify its injustices and the problems we face, and then do your bit to change it. make others aware, support, and act.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
surfin, hostin, and coastin
during the year and a half that I lived in a co-op house in Urbana, IL, we hosted tons of interesting surfers!
i've surfed in the dominican republic, canada, thailand, laos, and australia. my favorite experiences are having the chance to teach one another something, like a language or how to do something new.
food, learning new things, spending time outdoors hiking/camping/biking/rock climbing/kayaking, languages, music, poetry.
Music, Movies, and Books
movies: american beauty, y tu mamá también, butch cassidy and the sundance kid, lost in translation, the third man, roman holiday
music: too much
poetry: whitman, neruda, octavio paz, e.e. cummings, frost, eliot
podcasts: this american life, all songs considered, a prairie home companion, the moth, radiolab
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
carnaval in cuenca, ecuador. the holiday weekend is celebrated as a national water fight! water balloons, silly string, buckets of water dumped on trucks from second story windows, even gross stuff like flour and avocados. nothing could be more fun!
Teach, Learn, Share
i can teach you how to fold a paper crane, how to french braid hair, how to eat with chopsticks, how to make something tasty out of literally anything in your cupboard! would love to learn more about rock climbing which i'm dabbling in, how to beat a rubik's cube, and any language i can pick up.
