About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Serve humanity and the world. My mission is in line with the organization I am currently connected to and with whom I am destined to fulfill my purpose in life.

ABOUT ME

All the years of my life, I felt compelled to do more. The first quarter of my life has been filled with experiences that enabled me to become what I am now.

I belong to a large family in the Philippines. I have six brothers and six sisters. I am the twelfth child of 13. My father died when I was 5 years old, leaving all of us at the mercy of my mother who's only a housewife. My elder siblings went to the city to help fend for our needs aside from the little pension my father left. With the help of my dear uncle, some of them got into college and others worked for their education.Since then, those who finished helped those of us left in the province. With God's help, we were able to finish a degree but my mother was not able to witness it since she died of cancer when I was in my second year of high school.

That was a difficult time but a turning point of my life. I learned so many things and I value my family more than ever.

I was always a different type of kid when I was young. I matured so fast that I never enjoyed the things typical of what may age group would do. Instead, I devout myself in reading, a habit I got from my father who taught me to read voraciously everything that I can get hold of.In school,I was involved in extra-curricula activities, from Boy Scouts to Quiz Bees, Art contest to dance performances. That hone my inclination for art appreciation in all its forms.Academically and outside, I was keeping a balance of my achievements.

My involvement in charity work started in my high school years when I taught Catechism to deaf and mute students from my place. In college, I got involved in the student council and has been very active which earned me a gold medal for leadership. We did a lot of charity work in the name of the organization and the college of nursing. I got a grab of my community experience in my nursing education where we immersed and lived with the community people who belong to poorer areas of the city.Beyond that, I made a yearly charity work with different organizations.

After a stint in a callcenter, I passed my exams and looked for work as a nurse but unfortunately there was a downturn of the nursing industry and I was of the many who were unemployed. Until I got a job as lecturer for a small nursing school. My dream in the academe was never fulfilled since the school closed and I was left fending for another job in a country with a high unemployment rate.

Then, I got a sudden change in my fate when MDP Foundation contacted me. I trained with them and until now, things have changed. My passion for service become a life path. And my love for traveling grew.

After two years at the foundation, things changed again and I felt I was not giving myself the chance to grow professionally. Familiarity speaks boredom. I resigned and went to check out other career opportunities. Then Google was the next best thing. Though not a direct employee of Google itself, a third party contractor tapped me to lead the forming of the Google Educators Group in the Philippines and I handled the logistics and events production. At the same time I'm a trainer so we developed the curriculum for the program. After 3 successful pilot workshops in the Philippines, a first around the world,it was initiated in other countries starting in India and followed by other SEA neighbors. Now, we are rolling in for more community-building initiatives around the country. Indeed, I have gone Google and I loved it.

My Lakbayan grade is C+!How much of the Philippines have you visited? Find out at Lakbayan!Created by Eugene Villar.

PHILOSOPHY

I believe everything is one and our ultimate purpose in life is to do what you are destined to do. Flower where you are planted and spread your seeds around.

Everything is energy and that energy follows thoughts. Our lives must commune with nature and the vast universe beyond us. What is above, so is below.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I am only new to traveling. India is the first country I have visited because work has lead me there. I am interested in traveling to other places as well and with the help of CS, I know I can fulfill that dream, of which the ultimate is a backpacking trip somewhere around the world.

After a year of being in this wonderful community,I participate in CS as a volunteer greeter for New Members Welcome where we greet each member who joined the organization.

I also organize meetups, camping trips, dinners and just about any activity that excites my cultural and artistic sensibilities.

Interests

My interests are very broad.I am the adventurous type and risk anything just to gain a worthwhile experience.I've climbed mountains in my country, ran for a cause and very much into outdoor activities. Arts and culture heightens my sensibilities as well the merging of arts and fashion with an undertone of activism and non-conformity. I am open to any possibilities of helping out and do volunteer work or in line with my organization.

Music, Movies, and Books

Art films.Documentaries.Classical,contemporary pop, new age music.Any book that sparks my interest.I have no particular favorite.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

-Seeing the Dalai Lama and Desmund Tutu in one of his lectures in his McLeodganj Tibetan community.
-Do charity and touch peoples lives with the things I am sharing with them.

Teach, Learn, Share

I am very much interested to share about my knowledge in the work that I do and the interest and skills I am capable. The world is my classroom and everyone in it is my classmate, and together, we learn the experiences together serving as the best teacher.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can share my experience and my time in going with them around the city and let you see the Manila as it really is as well as find contrast in showing you the affluent side with the business district. Only a local knows where the best places hangout with so it would be lovely if I have the time to show you around.
