I think that couchsurfing is one of the best ways to not only getting to know new people, but at the same time getting an insight into what the everyday-life is like in the country you're visiting besides being a tourist.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

💫When I was in Ko Lanta with some really great people and we went swimming at night time and everything around us started glowing because of plankton. That night was truly amazing.
💫diving in Borneo/ Sabah/ Mabul was one of the best things I've done so far in my life.
