I'm off a Cretan working adventure with Farmer John (I'm the Sancho Panza to his Don Quijote). In free time between slaying windmills and hunting for the elusive perfect pastry, I'm also working on exploring this harbour town...

After five months abroad, I'm back stateside and living between Western Mass and New York City. Current plan: to make my unemployment last as long as possible.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Many of my favorite people in Greece came from the couchsurfing community. I have yet to exactly surf couches or have anyone surf on mine, but as soon as I have one to offer... BAM! It's yours.

Also, I read every email my Brooklyn chapter sends me, regardless of Brooklyn proximity. That's some sort of participation, I think...

Interessen

Almost everything is interesting for at least five minutes. Some that have lasted a little longer than that: reading, dancing, figuring out the art of Greek coffee, funny faces, funny laughs, viewing the world through my newly acquired binoculars and pretending no one can see me looking, air hockey.

Musik, Filme und Bücher

Movies: I generally watch movies for entertainment and not to learn anything. I inevitably do anyway, even if it's only learning I never, ever should have watched that movie.
Music: I can always listen to classic soul and Sinatra-esque standards. Generally, I'm pretty open. I have a weakness for anything I can dance to.
Books: Anything that tells a good story. Some favorites off the top of my head - The Master and Margarita, His Dark Materials, Hellfire, thrillers found in hotels and book exchanges, Special Topics in Calamity Physics.

Eine tolle Erfahrung, die ich gemacht habe

Maybe not the MOST amazing thing I've seen, but what first pops into my head (thanks to my first Woman's Day here on Crete) is the image of an awkwardly gyrating male stripper clad in nothing but shiny, silvery briefs and his MBT Anti-Shoes. For those who are unfamiliar with this particular footwear, MBTs are enormously ugly sneakers designed to burn extra calories while you walk (or, in his case, wiggle awkwardly on a platform). Needless to say, dead sexy. It made my night.
