About Me
CURRENT MISSION
The object of foreign travel, is not so much to set foot overseas as to see one's own country as a foreign land - Chesterson (1874-1936)
ABOUT ME
I'm an easy-going guy (something of a cliche on CS), discovering the world and getting in touch with its inhabitants. What I like the best is the combination of travelling (mostly hithchiking) and couchsurfing. Although I grew up in the small farmervillage Nieuw-Lekkerland (litteraly translated: 'New-tastycountry) I do like visiting cities and hanging around in urban areas. Since I'm studying I have plenty of sparetime (except for the testweeks of course) to travel.
PHILOSOPHY
- not because it's easy but because it's hard (J.F.K)- doing things that seems almost impossible. Although it can be hard sometimes, we have to keep in contact with other-minded people in order to stay nuanced about the world, cultures and people.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
Both are wonderfull ways to meet new people. Here are two short video fragments about me Couchsurfing in Belgium (both were on national television): http://nieuws.vtm.be/binnenland/88398-overheid-jaagt-op-couchsurfers
http://kanaalz.knack.be/nieuws/z-nieuws-items/informele-logies-onder-vuur/video-4000597500899.htm
Thanks to the fanatic defiance of Belgian CS'ers the plan wasn't carried out.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I couchsurfed many times.(pretty difficult verb to change, for a Dutchman at least). The first time we stayed in Antwerp for one night on our way to France, our hosts showed us the city, especially the bars, and we had a lot of interesting talks with them, at any rate; a pretty good begin of my CS-Career.After this wonderful experience I decided to couchsurf as much as possible.
