About Me
CURRENT MISSION
where we're going, we don't need roads...
ABOUT ME
I'm currently finishing (just finished, now) a three-year stint as an education volunteer with the US Peace Corps in Uganda. I spent the first two years as a science and IT teacher at a primary teachers college and then transferred to an all-girls school in northern Uganda for my last year where I taught science, math, English, and IT, depending on what was needed at the time. I also helped start our first school football team which went on to win the district title.
If you want to have an idea of what my personality is like...I'm easygoing and flexible, I like good conversation and learning about and from new people. I'm adventurous when I travel but I also find new places much more interesting when I get to know people who live there and what they like to do.
Things I like to do...play sports, listen to and struggle to play music, play more sports, run, dance, cook, sing in the shower...
I suppose I should also mention that I don't eat meat, in case you're going to host me and you plan on buying a bunch of meat for me to eat, or, I'm going to host you, and you plan to bring an offering of meat.
Now I also feel like that paragraph will make me appear to be a militant vegetarian when in fact I am not, don't worry.
PHILOSOPHY
"If you believe it, you can achieve it."
-My freshman calculus teaching assistant, encouraging me to pursue The Most Beautiful Woman in My Class

Teach, Learn, Share
Cultural exchange is my bread and butter. A big part of my attraction to joining the Peace Corps was that two of its goals involve cultural exchange. Volunteers are placed in communities for two or more years and encouraged to immerse themselves fully in local culture. This includes learning language, two of which I'd like to list in my profile but couchsurfing doesn't recognize them...
Another part of Peace Corps is bringing the culture of your host country home, so I've been sharing stories and photos with friends and family and also connected my students with pen pals in the US.
As far as practical skills, I have none.
