About Me

•••I'm only hosting surfers who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19•••

I'm a storyteller and wanderer. Author of two books, editor of a community blog, and a podcast host covering nitty-gritty issues of faith and masculinity. I'm an INFJ / Enneagram Type 4, and I can be a bit of a nut when it comes to personality models and understanding why any of us are the way we are, how we're all connected, and how to move toward growth.

I've worked as a mentor and tutor at a therapeutic boarding school for teen boys in drug/alcohol recovery and with other youth at learning centers, camps, and wilderness therapy. Kids inevitably teach me way more than I could ever hope to teach them: patience, perspective, and even self-worth and purpose. I trace much of my growth as an adult to youth involvement, and I'm a huge fan of when life turns full-circle like that.

I've been stocking journals since I was seven years old and blogging for the last decade about my Christian faith, my struggles, my wanderings, and my restless search for "home." I published my first book in 2013, a vulnerable collection of messy memoirs called "STRUGGLE CENTRAL: Quarter-Life Confessions of a Messed Up Christian."

I've received emails from readers all over the world, and I even met a few dozen of them on a 9-month road trip around America and Canada. I discovered the wonders of Couchsurfing on that quest, and I had the ride of my life.

In 2017, I published my second book about this continental road trip called "RUNNING TO: In Search of Home on the Open Road." You can check out both of my books on Amazon!

After an isolated upbringing, I'm learning to look at my life like a story, authored by a God beyond my comprehension and yet so evidently behind every interaction and revelation. I'm passionate about Jesus and broken people, especially youth, and seeing struggling stories turn to redemption on the next page.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I surfed with 30+ hosts road-tripping between 2014-15! I love the continuing stories Couchsurfing invariably brings. Traveling via Couchsurfing has become less about the places visited and more about the people encountered. I want to host others because of what so many have given me on the road.

Interests

Writing, reading, running, working out, hiking, watching sunsets, taking epic Instagram pictures, inhabiting coffee shops for hours, walking to and from stores and everywhere, and basking in the great outdoors.
