About Me
CURRENT MISSION
WORLD DOMINATION.
ABOUT ME
Tom: I grew up in a suburb around Baltimore and went to college in Rochester, NY. I am use to places with four seasons, where I can expect summer thunderstorms and snowy winters. So while I miss regular occurrences of water falling from the sky, moving to the Bay Area has proved to be one of my better decisions. I'm a (new) software engineer.
Katie: Likes sleeping, smiles, and milkshakes. She has degrees in English, Political Science, and Computer Science. She is usually cuddling with Pookie, our adopted Basenji while trying to convince Bentley, a big black pitbull-rottweiler mix, to join (Bentley likes his personal space). She hopes to go for her Master's in the future, hopefully to study her love of underwater basket weaving.
PHILOSOPHY
Tom is a big believer of living life to have as much fun as possible, filling it with unique experiences and different people.
Katie is a big believer that life is always better with chocolate milkshakes.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
We surfed for a while and hosted when we were in Rochester (but Rochester doesn't get much couchsurfing traffic). Now that we have moved to the Bay Area and we finally have a place that has enough room for visitors, we are happy to open up our home to travelers.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
We have met all sorts of exciting and different people. We always have great experiences with our hosts and our surfers.

Music, Movies, and Books
Movies: Wall-E, Star Wars, Lord of the Rings.
Tom loves movies a lot. Next to Walle, he likes Maborosi, Rashoman, Tokyo Story, all three Indiana Jones movies, Hot Fuzz, Groundhog Day, Dawn of the Dead, The Incredibles, Ratatouille, Children of Men among many, many others. He will be up for watching any movie.
Music: The Decemberists, Neutral Milk Hotel and The Mountain Goats.
Before Tom's car died, we would have a great deal of fun singing Decemeberist's songs on trips to Baltimore.
Books: Guns, Germs, and Steel.
Kate has a much more extensive repertoire of books she has read. She loves books in magical realism, with 100 Years of Solitude being her favorite. She also likes Robin Hobb, Edger Allen Poe, Dostoevsky, Kafka and greek tragedies, especially The Bacchae.
Tom really like the Song of Ice and Fire Series. He hopes to catch up to Katie extensive list of books in the future.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
We biked 364.46 miles (541.77 km) from Detroit, Michigan to Rochester, New York together over the course of 8 days in August 2010. It was fun and very rewarding. And Katie was super hardcore about it because she had a knee injury for the entire trip.
Teach, Learn, Share
Katie can offer her knowledge in napping. She's quite good at that.
