Overview
About Me
Not really into social media, different priorities, so I respond accordingly (s l o w af).
Male-ish. Sort-of-hetero. Don't fit the bills of tropes of masculinity. Privileged white European. Don't doubt the realness of power dynamics and impacts on people's lives. Naively aim to one day dissolve and move beyond categories. Appreciative of others who try to experience life as consciousness bubbles.
Into cruising rabbit holes, moving from low to high culture and back. I'm always up for frames of interesting thoughts and experiences. Don't mind associative ambiguity and irony. Pit fall: braincrack (thinking, not doing).
Aim to host and facilitate respectfully, correctly and situationally - the same way I try as a guest.
Social milieu: urbanized state of micro-wave culture, the lower-middle-class artificial bubble-life.
Not a foodie, came to like the concept of good foods and socializing, a relation to foods, their whereabouts, their processes, histories.
All in all, I just hope to eventually grow old as someone kind, open yet able to critically assess, instead of a nagging, negative and hopelessly biased fart.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
When traveling, it's real easy to get caught up in one's own comfort zone of withdrawal, in tourist perceptions, on hacky sacky hotel entertainment rides. Nothing wrong with relaxation but it's the stuff of boring stories and anonymous impressions of any catered reality. Meaningfully meeting locals during short visits and getting a sense of someone's "other" everyday life is far from a given. Couch surfing offers glimpses of inroads.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I still like to visit and stay over at friends throughout the Netherlands or abroad, and vice versa host them.
Once spent a period on couches in the house of hosts/surfers/squatters Giel and Bram, called "The Couch", in order for me to hang around for anthropological research about their livelihood, skills and lifestyle.
Recently, I stayed with some lovely folks in Scotland; we spent 4 out of 5 nights in guest rooms of couchsurfing hosts. I'm thankful for the life experiences.
