About Me

CURRENT MISSION

to free the gnomes! (from their frozen state in middleclass gardens)

ABOUT ME

I like cooking, I eat vegetarian stuff most of the time and I try to consume what is neccesary (meat isn't healthy all the time and the massive food industry doesn't need further support). But trying is difficult because of my urbanized state of micro-wave culture, alias, my desires for sugars, caffeine, nicotine. You know, the artificial bubble-life.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

by spending time with people I can get to know... hopefully listen to their stories and learn... exchange ideas... and I guess I'm offering my couch whenever possible

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I like spending time with friends whom live throughout the Netherlands.
And I have made use of the couches in the house of couchhosts/surfers Giel and Bram, called "The Couch". They allowed me to hang around for anthropological research about their livelihood, skills and lifestyle and they offered me a lot of kindness. In fact, they actually free garden gnomes as their mission and express my support.

Interests

Hmmm... mechanisms of meaning-making. How meaningless situations or objects or interactions can be constructed or staged or experienced or become meaningful, valueable, through change, through imagery and the senses. How lots of our life is situated in power relations.

I investigate these blablabla words with anthropology for studying how one can understand local perceptions and how 'knowledge' and 'authentic understandings' can be known, can be legitimized.
I play with these social rules of what are givens and how meaning becomes attached, by reading and writing poetry and stories. I like irony and "tragic-comedy" as we call it in Holland.

I like walking, hearing, feeling, smelling, watching, breathing. I don't like it that I have no knowledge of 'natural environments', neither that I have no nature-related skills. I do spend loads of time on thoughts and words on meanings of relationships with "nature" in urbanized and "natural" environments. And I am attracted to industries of development for its absurdity.

how about a machine that takes away all of our fears?
how about not?

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm proud of having had the opportunities to have experienced works by such great authors and artists. Sometimes, it's not necessary to communicate the amounts or identifications. soooo...just ask me if you want to know, or start a talk about your stuff because I would really like to know.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

one of the best things I ever did was taking that gamble and jump on a train to Denmark... to see a certain girl who didn't know me that well... to just see and find out whatever it would bring...and it brought the magical mystery tour of love. Or maybe the crucial moment was spending that weekend together and together making the decision, right there and then, to give us a shot.

Countries I’ve Visited
