About Me

CURRENT MISSION

eradication of tedium all the world over

ABOUT ME

i'm very tall, take tea, and crave fresh air.
although i studied french, its value has reduced to merely a means of exposing myself to the world through a different perspective. i graduated from college two years early so that i could go read, explore, touch, smell, feel, and see more than the confines of an academic setting would allow. there's something to be said for solo ramblings. maybe i've been reading too much proust...or is chateaubriand to blame? rousseau? clearly it's time i step out of the french culture box. you can help! :)

PHILOSOPHY

get on with it

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

we had a handful of couch-surfers crash at my former house in eugene over the course of the year, and i stayed with a great co-op in san francisco during cross-country travels this summer. they let me use their sewing machines and eat their precious dumpstered food. it was a delight. surfed through tennessee and north carolina last winter, as well. people are good.
my first trial of couch-surfing was a brief stint in beirut. didn't know anyone besides fellow couch-surfers until my arrival, at which point there was no struggle meeting people everywhere i went. the city and its people were absolutely thrilling, as were excursions to jeita grotto, tripoli, and qana.
i also couch-surfed independently, you could say, when i lived out of my car the past couple of summers. i spent the entire time in portland, and had several jobs, but saved up for school and future travels by roaming around town with my little home on wheels.

Interests

i'd play outside all day if i didn't get cold so damn quickly. i spend an awful lot of time making art as an excuse to ponder. i like to bake, was a pastry chef for a while, and cook fancy food as often as my pockets allow it (the rarity of such a state has allowed me to master beans and rice). my bicycle is royal blue and gold and it carries me quickly. i love to hear other peoples' music but have yet to play my own for many ears.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I hitch-hiked from Saint Louis through the Smoky Mountains and on south to Florida, west through Louisiana, and clear up to Detroit this summer with a friend I'd met on the road. Did a similar route on my own this winter, marching through piercing winds and lumpy muds after a very lovely Mardi Gras. Much can be said but my enthusiasm for this mode of travel would be better illustrated in person. A well-posed thumb has powers that pinkies can only dream of.
