Overview
About Me
I am a kayaker with a travel problem. In recent years I have made 3 trips to Ireland for personal trips and many more trips all over North America for work and also to coach kayaking skills at paddle sports events. The mix of work travel and for coaching has stirred the travel itch and I want to get out of my comfort zone and see new places.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I am on couch surfing because in my travels near and far the most meaningful experiences, the ones that I hold onto are the ones where I meet interesting people. Couchsurfing seems like a great way to meet new people and experience new places.
I will be traveling for about a month (all of July, 2018) in Iceland and Greenland (solo) and am looking for local connections.

Music, Movies, and Books
I have found great inspiration from the writings of Bruce Chatwin. I was loaned 'The Songlines' by a friend and was told I would enjoy it. That book changed the way I think about travel and being in a place. The same with 'In Patagonia'. It is a book about travel, at least that is what the reviews say, but it is really a book about being human and exploring what that means.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I did a month long solo and self supported kayak expedition from Lake Superior to the Atlantic Ocean. It was a reward to myself for completing my college education. After that, every year or two I get really itchy feet and need to just go off on a big adventure.
Teach, Learn, Share
I am a kayak instructor and can give lessons if kayaks are available. I also teach a traditional exercise from the Arctic called Greenland Rope Gymnastics or Allunaariaqattaarneq and love teaching people these interesting skills.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I can also cook a pretty good kebab and make some fantastic garlic naan bread.
