Hey, I'm Tim.

I recently quit my job in technology to kick off a period of learning by traveling and making new friends.

Traveling for me is just as much about meeting people from different backgrounds and learning about other cultures as it is about seeing sights and absorbing the history of the place I'm visiting.

I also have a strong interest in learning about how technology is (hopefully!) improving people's lives in culturally-specific ways.

I studied economics in school, worked in democratic politics for a while, and have most recently switched into the software industry. I've lived in Chicago, Washington DC, and Dallas.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I just started using Couchsurfing in earnest this year (2015.)

I've made some great friends on here and I'm looking forward to the streak continuing!

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: I enjoy most genres. Particular favorites are indie, hip hop, anything well-produced that you can dance to (including some EDM... don't judge too hard.) A current favorite is The Weeknd, since his voice reminds me so much of Michael Jackson.

Movies: I'm a big fan of dramas and suspense movies. Crime and espionage movies are particular favorites, but I enjoy the majority of movies I watch. I love twist endings.

Books: Honestly, I'm using this trip (end of 2015, going into 2016) to catch up on a lot of fiction that I missed out on. I'm decently well read when it comes to history and biographies of people I'm interested in, but fiction is a different story (pun intended?) Happily accepting recommendations.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Not to bring politics into this, but I once made a joke that made Barack and Michelle Obama laugh.

I've also been in a car driving the wrong way on a highway in Cairo.
