About Me

CURRENT MISSION

to explore the world, surf lots of waves and have fun, as I've spent too much time studying and working!

ABOUT ME

I've always enjoyed being shown around new places by locals rather than the tourist thing, get a much better sense of what a place is really about.
I'm a big bloke, and most people say I'm a big personality, and definitely a gentle giant! Hoping to meet fun, enthusiastic and energetic people in weird and wonderful places!

PHILOSOPHY

Ok this quote sounds mega-corny but I like to learn! "Knowledge is the wings on which our aspirations take flight and soar. When it comes to surfing and life if you know what to do you can do it. If you desire anything become educated about it and succeed"

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've done the donation thing, and I'm happy to lend my couch or spare room for a night here and there

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've had some people staying with me which has been a very positive experience. I havent surfed anyone elses couch yet but I have met up with some couchsurfers and it has been fun.

Interests

Surfing, paddleboarding, kitesurfing, rowing (mostly lifeguard surf rowing boats these days) and sculling, golf, tennis, playing guitar

Books - The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, Vernon God Little, We Need to Talk About Kevin, Maya (Jostein Gaarder), Anything about Evolutionary Biology (I'm currently reading the Tell Tale Brain by VS Ramachandran, which is amazing)

Movies-Happiness, Memento, Magnolia, Amelie

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Spending time with and having fun with my 8 year old son Ben!
I kitesurfed across the Red Sea a few years ago (see my Facebook photos)
I survived a shark feeding frenzy in Australia (I thought they were dolphins until I looked around and all the australians had paddled in and left me alone with the killer beasts!)
I used to be able to drink 3 pints of Guinness in 30 seconds (havent tried that in a while though!)

Teach, Learn, Share

I love to learn and teach medicine, science, music and sports. I teach medical students as part of my work, I have taught many students in rowing, golf, and kitesurfing, my main sports. I love to see the look in students eyes when they really start to understand something new and get inspired but in teaching I find I learn at least as much as the students (I hope not too much more!). I mainly enjoy taking part and watching people have fun trying new things!
