Overview
About Me
I have somehow landed in Boston. I work here at a startup that builds furniture that grows food indoors. I'm originally from Melbourne Australia, and am currently living with an American, a Moroccan and and Frenchman in a house that has a basement dedicated to traveling couchsurfers, like we all once were.
ABOUT ME
This whole working thing has me busy, but I am loving it. If you have an interest in sustainability, growing your own food or startup companies then we will have stuff to talk about. I'm a fan of 'the walking dead' right now, and am currently reading a book on microbiology. I was in the army once, and the experience pretty much turned me into a hippy.
I'm just an all around friendly guy who likes friendly people.
PHILOSOPHY
Freedom and independence, whilst being open to all types and being honest in all your meetings, is a key to a healthy soul and a happiness free of fear
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I joined as a traveler, and am now a host. I hope to one day be a traveler again, but for now want to give back some karma to those who are still on the road. I will try to go on weekend adventures when I can.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
It was recommended by a friend I made in a hostel. I used it briefly, then got lucky and landed some word of mouth stays and then longer term accommodations. I am now more experienced as a host than I ever was as a traveler. My housemates have been hosts for years and we have travelers a couple of times a month.
Interests
My interests include Aquaponics, hiking and the outdoors, scuba diving, learning new things, live music, watching sports, visiting new places, participating in kiva and new experiences. I'm an average cook but a capable kitchen hand, and like all Australian guys I know my way around a BBQ and have eaten kangaroo

Music, Movies, and Books
I like movies. Last movie I saw was Django Unchained and my all time favourite is probably the Shawshank Redemption. I also love stupid comedies like Zoolander and Anchorman.
I love latin inspired music. There is a Melbourne band called the Cat Empire and a guy called Ash Grunwald and I love them both. I'm currently enjoying the music culture in the US.
I love to read when I can. The last book I read was Shantaram which was about an escaped prisoner who moved to a slum in india and started a medical clinic.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
The Inca trek in Peru. Camping all around Australia for Army training. Parachuting in WA tandem and NSW solo zipline. Bungee jumping in New Zealand. Going on a 'poker run' with a collection of motorcycle gangs in colorado. Giving up a stable career in engineering to adventure and travel and ultimately join an exciting startup doing what I love.

My tips so far:
- When leaving Australia, once you've cleared customs, you can claim back 10% of the value of items you are carrying with you that you have recently bought at the TRS (tourist refund scheme) counter. I got some cash back on a camera.
- Make sure when traveling to the states that you get your ESTA from the homeland security website for $14. There are imitation sites that will organise it but charge you a ridiculous service fee. I got stung an extra $50, but have been able to save a few others from the trap.
