About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Live my dream : become an airline pilot. And have as much fun as possible along the way :-)

ABOUT ME

Hi!

I'm Matti, a relatively well-travelled guy from a lot of places.

I was born in Sweden with a Swedish mum and a British dad, stayed for 2 years, moved to Saudi Arabia for 4 years, then back to Sweden, then to Chile, and for the past 11 years I've been living in Geneva, Switzerland. Phew! I really think of it as my home country, even though I don't have the nationality yet. I've done most of my schooling here, including a term at the university, all my friends are here, and, you know...it's home!

I really love this place (except of course the ridiculously high cost of living), and try to convey that to anyone who comes to visit.

For the moment I live with my parents in a smallish town outside Geneva called Versoix (about 10 km out), right by the lake, close to most important things.

PHILOSOPHY

Hmmm...personal philosophy...hard to say. If I do say anything, it will probably be stolen from someone else anyway, so let's just say I like what I've read about Sartre. Oh, and have fun :-)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'm still very new to CS. In fact, so new, I'm not even sure if what I do can be called participating! I've not hosted anyone yet, not surfed anyone's couch, not made any friends. But I hope to change that in the future, cause this whole thing looks very very exciting and useful. I've only ever heard or read good things about CS and I'm really looking forward to my first experience with it.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

None. Yet.

Interests

As you can see in my mission, I'm working towards becoming an airline pilot. I'm interested in anything to do with aviation, and in a broader sense, science and technology.

I also enjoy playing the piano, riding my bike to get places (or you could actually say it's more of a passion, as long as it's not raining too hard ;-)), playing badminton, hiking, skiing...

I like having long conversations about moral issues
and/or philosophy, mostly ending up in feeling really small in the vastness of the universe. I love sitting down with friends drinking moderate amounts of beer and meeting new people in the process is always a plus.

I can cook, or at least put various things on the table and force people to eat them. No but seriously, I enjoy cooking a lot and making people happy with food is one of my favorite feelings. Anyway, I hope there's something here for everybody!

Music, Movies, and Books

Rock('n'roll), trance, classical, metal (at least some of it, definitely not all), Stevie Wonder, jazz....I like most music. Defining artists : The Beatles, Stevie Wonder, U2.

Movies : just off the top of my head...Zoolander, American History X, Snatch, Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, anything by Mel Brooks, Little Shop of Horrors, No Country for Old Men, Pulp Fiction. Others are there in my head somewhere.

Books, well I used to read A LOT and then stopped a little for some reason and I'm now trying to get back into it. I've read and liked The Lord of the Rings, Phillip Pullman's trilogy, 1984, Animal Farm, Burmese Days (big fan of Orwell as you can see), Fahrenheit 451, some Dan Brown, a lot of John Grisham (amazing!), stuff like that.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Flown a light airplane, hoping to do a lot more of that in the future. And have a surprise party thrown for me for my 18th birthday. That was really wonderful.

Teach, Learn, Share

The sum of odd numbers going from one to whatever is always a perfect square. I'm a maths nerd.

Countries I’ve Visited

Denmark, France, Germany, Tunisia, United Kingdom

Countries I’ve Lived In
