Overview
About Me
CURRENT MISSION
To sail beyond the sunset, and the baths of all the western stars, quoting clichéd poetry.
ABOUT ME
I'm half Dutch, half British and I grew up in Mali, Bhutan, Malawi, and the Netherlands, so I've always had a taste for travel and the international. I'm a pretty low-maintenance, easy-going guy; I'm always looking for new perspectives and ideas, always happy to share a drink or conversation, and almost always keen to try a new experience. I love good music and terrible puns; British comedy and American dramas; short stories and Big Books; dark humour and milk chocolate; long words and disestablishmentarianism. I just finished a masters degree in History and now I'm taking some time off to get back to the 21st century and experience some life/adventure on the road.

Music, Movies, and Books
Movies: I'm not too picky really. I couldn't choose a favourite, but The Princess Bride, Wall-E, and Cinema Paradiso would be up there, for different reasons. I also enjoy Paul Thomas/Wes Anderson movies.
Music: anything and everything, from East Coast hip hop to traditional Malian kora music; I absolutely love discovering new music! My first and most enduring love, however, is the lyrical folk of Dylan, Leonard Cohen, Townes van Zandt, Tom Waits, etc.
Some authors I enjoy include (in no particular order): Nabokov, Douglas Adams, Dostoyevsky, Neal Stevenson, Terry Pratchett, Hilary Mantel.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Trekking through the Himalayas in Bhutan.
Snorkeling in lake Malawi.
Cycling down the Rhine and Danube.
Countless acts of kindness by complete strangers.
Teach, Learn, Share
I can teach guitar (especially acoustic), basic vegetarian cooking, and how not to sing.
