About Me

I would hope to be able to say I'm quite difficult to sum up in a few paragraphs! I am a trained theoretical physicist, though spend my days doing nothing of the sort! After leaving university I decided to spend my time doing what I really enjoyed, or more precisely learning what really fulfilled me. I have always been a very creative individual, and now have committed to that part of me. I love music, art, literature, philosophy, writing, photographing, creating, anything I can think hard about!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I greatly value all the interactions I have happened upon, with people who are very interested in something themselves, whether it happens to be something I myself am interested in or not. I always enjoy spending time with people who are really into something, and would like to make that happen more often!

Interests

Thinking, primarily ... I am an avid reader, try my best to read one a day, but it's usually more like one every three days. I have found a real affinity with french existentialism, as much as one ever can describe that as an affinity... I have always loved art, at the moment mainly surrealism, photography also a huge passion. I carry around a rucksack full of film and develop with chemicals as I travel!
Playing guitar is very important to me. Though this is more of a private affair I'm more than happy to play along with anyone else musical. Anything 60's 70's is my kind of thing. The doors, pink floyd, jimi hendrix. Despite what that would suggest no I don't smoke.
I write all the time. I feel choked if I can't articulate myself. I used to express that more through taking photos but now I tend to turn to pen and paper. I have a lot of weird short stories to share, and am half way through writing a rather odd novel. I assure I'm not as troubled as what I write would suggest...

Music, Movies, and Books

I do not even know where to begin. Right now, I'm obsessed with Jim Morisson's "An American Prayer". A synergy of poetry and music, absolutely beautiful. If there was anyone who best personified an existential revolt it would be Jim Morrison. Also this year I've been listening to pink floyd on loop. Any album, so long as listened to start to end with no distractions. Shine one you crazy diamond. James Blake's new album "The colour in anything". Utterly heartbreaking but absolutely beautiful. I usually start my mornings with some Erik Satie. Am always keen to listen to jazz in the evenings. Literally any genre of music, so long as it is good music!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Last week I carried a ridiculously heavy bag up a mountain for a local berber woman. My shoe genuinely fell apart, so by the time I reached the top I was quite a sorry state. She was however very grateful, though misunderstood me when I asked if she had any children, and thought I was offering to help her create some...

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm quite a broad set of interests and am more than happy to share my skills! Anything science based I'm well qualified to help. If you want to know some cool quantum mechanical phenomena just say...
Photography. I used to run classes and lead my university photography society, mainly film photography, development and darkroom printing. Though I did a lot of digital too and can share a lot of experience there!

What I Can Share with Hosts

Whether other people would call me interesting or not, I am not the one to say. But I can say for certain that I am incredibly INTERESTED in a great deal of things. And nothing pleases me more than sharing ideas and having mine challenged by other interested people.
On a more practical note I am a great cook!
Also very good with my hands. Good at fixing things and solving problems, physical or philosophical...
