About Me

CURRENT MISSION

travel beautiful countries, meet interesting people and kiss them. :)

ABOUT ME

Free wheeler (literally.) I ride my bike everywhere
Hippy - Live in a ecological commune (sort of)
looking to travel and enjoy live.
somewhat introvert. (rather deal with smaller groups of people and friends.)

PHILOSOPHY

radical self reliance, sustainability, vegetarianism. Carfree = carefree

Arguably my favourite books are 'Why Work?' (various authors) published by London based anarchistic Freedom Press and 'how to be Idle' and 'How to be free' both by Tom Hodgkinson.

There is an old truism* that goes 'you don't live to work, you work to live'.Yet it seems many people find themselves stuck in the proverbial 9-5 job, or worse. So I've always had low wage part-time jobs by choice. And I think there are many untrue assumptions about more leisure life styles.

"Don't you have any ambitions?" well, my friend Vincent, and partner in leisure, replied on his blog "My ambition is towering! I just don’t strive towards the same things as most." My ambitions in life are, Living Free, improving myself intellectually, socially and practical, and giving my time and energy to those I care for and love, instead of to my boss.

"don't you have worry about each penny you spend?" This might be partially true. After all you can't have your cake and eat it too. There probably are some things you might have to sacrifice for a life of leisure. But as far as I'm concerned these are all things I could well do without! No expensive luxury items such as watches or state of the art phones to worry about. No car to to take to the garage. No expensive lunches to save time on my 30 minute work break. As for housing; I'm in luck. I live in a very affordable 'community'. Most people who see my house say "it's great but it's not for me." Sharing a bathroom and kitchen and building your own room is a price their not willing to pay for the true luxury of free time. And yet the complain! I've learned to live cheaply without losing comfort. I learned to cook very inexpensive and mend most of my own sparse belongings. What I own are well thought through items such as my netbook pc, or bought second-hand such as my furniture and bikes.

"Don't you get bored sitting around doing nothing all day?" I am in my way a very active person. I just don't go to work at 9 o' clock every morning. I spend my days filled with hobbies such as reading, DIY repairs, internetting or other creative pastimes. Or going around browsing 2nd hand shops, undertaking projects or hanging out with friends and relatives.

Just recently I quit my job as bike messenger because as Ran Prieur in his essay "how to drop out" writes "But if you make an effort to combine your income and your love, you are likely to end up compromising both, making a poverty income by doing something you don't quite love, or no longer love." **

Currently I'm being paid a small amount to do construction type of work in the place where I live, and am looking to open a 2nd hand bike shop with my mate Vincent.
