ABOUT ME

I´m a student of Cultural Studies and Theatre scenography from Finland.

I am, I hope, a rather nice person: friendly, easy-going and chatty. This cheeriness is balanced by occasional melancholy air, that may make me seem more serious than I actually am. I play violin, though not very actively anymore. My favorite past-times are watching films, reading, hiking and spending time with my friends.

I drink gallons of tea daily and occasionally good red wine in a good company. I like to travel alone, because that is, in my opinion, easiest way to find new friends and adventures.

PHILOSOPHY

Love. It´s old, but after everything else, that is what´s the most important, the one that remains. Love to other people, to places, to the things you do - and to traveling.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I am right now back in Finland, after living in Beijing in a campus dorm for the summer. At the moment I cannot host, but the process of persuading my new flatmate to co-operate for it is in progress. Soon, I hope to be able to open my couch to new friends from around the world!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

To date I have been surfing three times: in Cambridge, Great-Britain, in March 2010; in Hiroshima, Japan, in February 2011, and in Xi'ian, China, in 2012. In Cambridge I was with my friend, and a group of the nicest sociology students gave us their couch for a night. It was a jolly experience, and encouraged me to sign up myself to couchSurfing. Later I found a most hospitable couch from Hiroshima, that was one of the high points of my Japan-trip. In Xi'ian, a tremendously nice host became my friend and showed me her city for many days.

Interessi

Languages, different cultures, literature, art, cinema, science fiction and fantasy, driving a bike, baking, trees, comics, theatre, whales, opera and journalism.

Musica, film e libri

Right now I am reading "Middlesex" by Jeffrey Eugenides, and "Storm of Swords" by R.A.A. Martin. You could say my taste is rather broad :)

My favorite authors are John Ajvide Lindqvist, P.G. Wodehouse, Johanna Sinisalo, Terry Pratchett and Annie Proulx. My favorite books are "Brideshead Revisited" and "Lord of the Rings" (no laughing there!). I am also a big fan of graphic novels and comics.

With music, my taste also varies, but Nick Cave, Tori Amos, Kate Bush, CMX (a Finnish rock band) and Patti Smith are close to my heart - not to forget Rammstein and Lily Allen...

Movies are the great love of my life, and with those also I like many different genres. Depending my mood, I choose either a Kurosawa movie, a sci-fi dystopia film or a romantic comedy. With pirates. Monty Pythons are my idols.

Hiking trips to Switzerland, Finland´s Lapland. Hong Kong and China in general.
