About Me

We, Tinne & Peter, Belgians from Antwerp, are at the start of our 50's and young at heart. We're like yin & yang, the perfect mix for a colourful couple.
We work both in the social sector in challenging but also demanding jobs. Because we want to keep our life in balance, we travel the world, from time to time even for a while.
At the moment we're on our 5th sabatical year. We like to be on the way, to be active and adventurous. We are keen to explore nature, to wander and to hike, even to dive into the oceans. We're curious and like also to meet interesting people and learn about their unique cultures.
We're conscientiuos, respectful, social and open minded in balance with critical thinking and ethical values.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Travelling is our way of living and we do like to be independent on our way. But visiting foreing countries and especially big cities, brings a lot of questions and needs also a lot of reflexion and digestion. We experienced that the chance to share this with the guidance and expertise of a local host is better than to be in an anonymous residence.
The worst thing that we miss when travelling on the long haul, is family and friends. To be welcomed by a host in a home far away from home, reliefs the ache of this severe missing feeling and gave us already friends for life from Singapore, New Zealand and French Polynesia.
And to be honest, long travelling has his expences and couchsurfing makes a big difference in the budget.

Interests

Travelling is like a treasure hunt, it takes you through the entire world where you can learn all about ... the birds and the bees and the flowers and the trees and the moon upperbove and a thing called love, ...
A song, a composition, a book, a movie, even a small thing, a look of beauty, can catch and fulfill us.
We not only believe in a healthy mind, but also in a healthy body. We don’t smoke, love pure food and can be found several days a week in the gym, although Peter is the most fanatic of us.

Music, Movies, and Books

We love a wide range of music. Just look at our spotify playlist on tinterontour, we're sure there is a sound for everybody!
On our way we just grab every book that is available for reading when we make time sit down and read. We've just read: A Thousand spendid suns (Khaled Housseini) ; In the shadow of the banyan (Vaddey Ratner) and In one person (John Irving), all we can recommend. Now we bought us an e-reader and topped it up with travelguides (Southeast Asia, Canada) and also with the books of: Jonas Jonansson (The hundred-year-old man who climbed out of the window and dissapeared), Haruki Murakani (1q84), Joachim Meyerhof (Wanneer wordt het eindelijk weer zoals het nooit is geweest), Michiel Stroink (Of ik gek ben), Isabel Allende (The Japanese lover), Jonathan Safran Four (Here I am), ...
On our laptop we have a few movies (The Fisher King (Robin Williams & Jeff Bridges), Le fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulin (Audrey Tautou), A beautiful mind (Russell Crowe), the Mission (Robert De Niro), Sliding doors (Gwyneth Paltrow), Airport (Tom Hanks), Loc, stock and two smoking barrels (...) to watch them again, but we just need to sit down and pay!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

We flew from 102 meter the pipeline in the Skippers canyon and dove 45 seconds at 200km/h from 4000 meter above lake Taupo, bungeejumping and skydiving in New Zealand. So we did these two amazing things!

Teach, Learn, Share

It isn’t easy to teach an older monkey to mop and mow. But younger people are our future, so there is a big attraction to meet them, to share and to learn from each other.
Due to our social jobs we assist people by encouraging their empowerment, to detect and (learn) to solve their problems, so they can bring more balance and well beeing in their life.

What I Can Share with Hosts

In Europe, Belgians are known for their burgundian lifestyle. We want to share our 'joie de vivre' how we enjoy to cook, eat and drink in a relaxed athmosphere, where a good travelstory never is far away. We can show what Italians means with l' Arte d'arrangiarisi': the art of making something out of nothing, how to turn a few simple ingedrients into a feast or a few gathered friends into a festival!
When we don't travel we're renovating our appartement and want to create an extra space for a couch to let worldtravellers to surf on!
