I am a 36 yr old (soon 37), well traveled American language teacher living in Paris. I have a B.S. in Global Business Management and M.A. in International Relations and Diplomacy Paris. I like learning about different cultures and love music. I play several instruments, and sing. I also like swimming and enjoy sunshine.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

My Couchsurfing experience has pretty much been NIL. I have always ended up just going to a hotel or hostel since I have joined the site. No clue as to the precise reason, but my requests are always denied, me best guess based on life experience is that my profile is the exact opposite of YWF (young white female). So this time, after constant rejection, I have decided to try asking gay hosts and finally got my first positive response to a request from a super nice guy who has offered me a comfy air mattress in his living room for the last two days of my recently planned birthday trip. Another guy has invited me to meet in town for a drink which I included in my travel announcement.
I didn't even want to mention that I was gay in the beginning, because I am so much more than that. I don't even share it with other gays in most cases, it is just not something I talk about daily.

In the past I have hosted people when I lived in L.A. as well as my old place in Amsterdam, and I have been hosted even by people I have met just like that on the street, so I don't know why online, through a community such as this one, it seems to be so hard for people to be kind enough to at least offer one night. I think people don't even realize that gender, age and race bias plays into their choosing of guests.

Other rejections for time frame are fine, but they are different since people actually respond and don't just simply click on the reject button. To these people I say thank you for taking the time to at least write a note, even if it is one word such as the last one "busy".

On the other hand I have never asked a girl to host me which I should start doing or I will never have any luck on here, Although even then I think I would have to mention that I am gay before I should get a good response.

Intereses

Music, literature, dancing, sleeping, learning, languages, cultre, travel, museums and just having a good time. I am not so complicated. I like learning new things and having new experiences.

Música, películas y libros

I am a lover of educational books, art literature is also great, and love reading Shakespeare, Molière and more. Even if you thank I am a language geek I must say that I even love Beowulf in its original language, I like deciphering and rereading to catch things and understand it more each time.

I have seen and done many wonderful things. One of the greatest places I have seen is Budapest. I strongly recommend going there.
