ABOUT ME

I am a student of German and French literature and culture, and am in my final semester of undergraduate studies at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. I was awarded the DAAD national fellowship to study for a year in Leipzig, where I took courses in literature, philosophy, and cultural anthropology. I am in the process of applying to German literature PhD programs in the United States, and hope to expand into Slavistics. I have been traveling since the early years of my life (part of the ex-Yugoslav diaspora), have lived in many American cities, been to Greece, Macedonia, worked as a nanny in Biarritz, France, traveled all over Germany, the Czech Republic, Hungary, and Canada. I would love to continue my travels through my studies, and to meet people with common interests.

Favorite novel is The Confederacy of Dunces by John Kennedy Toole, Dostoevsky, Kafka, Chekov, Brecht, Simone de Beauvoir, Camus, Sartre, Thomas Bernhard, etc.

argh...films...so many. Petrovic's film 'I Even Met Happy Gypsies' is my favorite film (am working on it right now as well), classic Weimar cinema: Caligari, Nosferatu, etc., la nouvelle vague stuff, Kieslowski (not so much the three colors, prefer the decalogue and earlier docu. stuff), Kawalerowicz, Zanussi, Godard,'Kuhle Wampe,' Konrad Wolf, love film noir (favorite is Dassin's Du rififi chez les hommes), I really can't list all of my favorite films or novels in this little box, and it would take way too much time.
