Hi everyone! My name is Tom, 25 years old from Queenstown, New Zealand.

I grew up in the mountains of NZ and left home at 17 to travel and work overseas. I've lived in Austria, Japan and France, and the last few years have been working on yachts in the Mediterranean, the Red Sea, and all throughout the Pacific Ocean.

I love being active and in the outdoors, and trying out new things or new adventures that I haven't done before. I love immersing myself in foreign countries and learning the local culture, language and traditions. I love meeting people from all walks of life, who have different experiences and stories that they like to share. I'm a very social butterfly!

I find interest in many aspects of life, including team, combat and extreme sports, psychology, philosophy, science, evolution, geography, geology, culture, music, and cosmology. I really just love speaking with anyone and everyone, about literally anything, trading stories, learning off each other, hearing another perspective. My father always taught me, you can always learn something from everyone!

My parents brought me up to treat others with kindness and respect. I consider myself to be also very tidy, down to earth, and respectful of other peoples space and property.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I've been a huge college football fan since I was 12, and this October (2023) I'm flying over to the USA to hitchhike around the Southern States and watch the biggest games live in stadium.

I've never done Couchsurfing before, but I just quit my job back in June, so I'm balling on a budget right now hence the hitchhiking and Couchsurfing, and hoping to meet some likeminded people to share my stories and experience with, and even some students or alumni in the college towns I visit to score some tickets!

I'm excited to start my Couchsurfing adventure and see where the road takes me. I apologise in advance that I do not have any references yet, as this is my first Couchsurfing trip that I am about to embark on, so I have no prior experience!
