Actually, it's because traveling as a pure tourist and getting stuck in the tourist infrastructure is a bummer! Meaningful engagement with people and communities is so much better, and couchsurfing makes that possible!

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: So much! I really am open minded to any genre. The point to me is creative expression presented in an accessible and aurally pleasing way, so any music that accomplishes that is great! Favorites include alt-J, Ásgeir, Betty Who, Chromeo, Disclosure, First Aid Kit, Frank Ocean, John Mayer, Justin Bieber, Kanye, Lana Del Rey, Little Big Town, Local Natives, Lorde, Lydia Baab, Shawn Mullins, Stromae, Troye Sivan, and The 1975. (Yes, I did just go through my Spotify library alphabetically and pick favorites.)

Movies: Don't watch a ton, but goodies include Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, Brokeback Mountain, James Bond, Inside Out, Robin Hood (the 1970s animated version), Samsara--anything that inspires action or makes me laugh or cry 👌

Books: mostly non-fiction, recent reads include At Home in the Universe, The Elegant Universe, and Honey and Oil.
