About Me

I can be easy going, when I'm not hungover.....but then again doesn't everyone say they're easy going? I'm the kind of person you'd want on your team at the pub quiz - I'll get the rounds in, you get the answers in.

I grew up on a dairy farm in rural England, Hereford to be precise - cider country.
After studying Sound Engineering at Birmingham City University, graduating and then landing an apprenticeship in Heritage Masonry by chance, I worked for 2 years and then got a bit bored with life so decided to take off on a global journey with no aim or end in sight. The last year 2 years since I left England havebeen fantastic and the future looks pretty rad too. Currently I'm on a working holiday visa in NZ, slumming about Otago.
I am just looking to enjoy this crazy ride we're all on and make some cool friends along the way. We all die one day so instead of being a sourpuss about it, why not inspire and make as many people happy on your way and leave them with rad memories and ideas.

I have a ukulele with me that I'm slowly learning to play, so if you play an instrument it would be a cool bonus to jam.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

To meet people, make connections, diversity is the spice of life. I can be shy so I want to thrust myself into situations I wouldn't normally gravitate towards.

Why do we do anything in life? For the sh*ts & giggles of course.

Interests

Music, film, sound recording, comedy,
exploring. Recently started listening to history podcasts which are fascinating. Gorging on cheese & crackers.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: from dixieland jazz to death metal - Lately I've been listening to Louis Armstrong, Origin, Tom Waits, Blood Red Throne, Pink Floyd, Art Blakey, Black Sabbath, Skinless, Emperor, Chet Baker.

Films: John Carpenter's The Thing. Samsara & Baraka. Withnail & I. Anything by Jim Jarmusch, Wes Anderson. I have a Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde relationship with films - one day I will enjoy some terrible popcorn blockbuster, the next I will feel ashamed of myself and watch some deep dark documentary.

Books: The Picture of Dorian Gray, anything by Stephen Fry, HP Lovecraft, Hunter S Thompson. Space/physics books i.e anything by Michio Kaku. The Snow Leopard. I Am Legend. I try to read philosophy but often give up halfway through.
I rent/buy more books than I can read. What is the saying "Eyes bigger than your stomach?" I guess my eyes are bigger than my......brain......

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Take part in Karthigai Deepam at the Arunachaleswarar temple in Tiruvannamalai, Tamil Nadu.

Teach, Learn, Share

The more I talk to people from around the world, the more I realise we're all so different yet have so much in common. We all inhabit a chunk of this rock hurtling through space, with different agendas yet one shared capacity for love.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Unparalleled levels of cynicism. But that's only in the mornings, I am not a morning person, I've tried for years to break this habit but alas it has been in vain, so far.

Countries I’ve Visited

Cambodia, France, Germany, India, Italy, Laos, Nepal, New Zealand, Spain, Thailand, Wales

Countries I’ve Lived In

England, New Zealand
