I host on warm showers a site for cyclists and have enjoyed having people stay with us. I have met people from all over the place. I have also had people live with us for varying time periods over the decades just because they needed a place to stay. I would not mind longer term guests. Our home is situated in the woods and is very private but still close to everything.

who knows life is a surprise. I have found that most of the couch surfers that I said I would host have little respect for being on time or other peoples time and it has soured my experience a bit. Showing up late at night because they are having fun may be great for them and understandable if they were paying for a hotel. I am used to hosting people who travel by bicycle and have found them much more considerate. If you are unsure of your schedule you should find someone else to stay with and if you set a time to arrive you have a bit of wiggle room but not hours if it is 9 pm then say it and do it do not show up at 11.
