Overview
About Me
Love new experiences, including meeting people from all walks of life. I'm a single father of 3 grown young men. I'm very active, with a love of road biking, and competitive stair climbing (not as dorky as it sounds). Also love live music...I'm a lifelong Deadhead, but enjoy all types of music - rock, blues, Americana, bluegrass, folk, jam. Beer makes me happy! Not a beer snob, but love sampling craft beers...goes hand in hand with biking.
I love traveling, just don't get to do as nearly as much as I would like...mainly US, some overseas. Looking forward to biking from Brussels to Amsterdam later this summer!
Chicago is in Oak Park's backyard, and as wonderful as OP is (Frank Lloyd Wright studio and homes, Ernest Hemingway homes, etc), Chicago is a great city for dining, museums, sports, the lake front, shopping etc. Love spending time downtown
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
For all the reasons mentioned above...enjoy meeting new people and traveling, so what better way to meet new folks and get a feel for the cities and countries I pass through, than to spend time with people who live there! Or show people around my home town.

Music, Movies, and Books
Music - Grateful Dead, jam bands in general, Allman Bros, J Geils Band, Rolling Stones (most 60's/70's classic rock), Motown, The Band, bluegrass/folk/Americana, blues
Movies - love classic comedy The Marx Brothers, Abbot & Costello, early Woody Allen (and some of his later stuff); action escapism is always entertaining; murder mystery and espionage; wide range and taste
Books - More fiction than non, don't have any one favorite author; wide range...
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Climbed the 2 tallest buildings in North America in 20 minutes (climbing the stairs, not Spiderman style) - Sears/Willis Tower in Chicago, and One World Trade Center (Freedom Tower) in NYC
Teach, Learn, Share
Love spreading the word about bicycling. I'm the president of the Oak Park Cycle Club, an advocate for bike safety and education, volunteer for a variety of related events and causes, member of League of American Bicyclists, League of Illinois Bicyclists; captain of a bike team (The Misfits) that rides for various charities.
There's a place for everyone on the road...motorists, cyclists, pedestrians.
What I Can Share with Hosts
A good time! Already mentioned in my profile, I love staying active. Open to guests' suggestions depending upon our shared interests, or I'd be happy to play tour guide and show people around Oak Park and Chicago
