About Me

I'm Irish but have lived in Berlin since 2010. Right now I'm living in BA for a few months, having given up my job as a Data Scientist quite recently. I used to speak Spanish quite well & I'm currently working on getting it back to fluency.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Simply put, I enjoy meeting new people & get a lot of satisfaction from sharing a laugh with others. Even if it's just for an evening or a couple of hours. I met some wonderful people through this app & found many encounters to be inspiring. I tend to remember the people I met as opposed to things I've seen.

Music, Movies, and Books

I like primarily electronic music ranging from disco to house & techno - spending 10+ years in Berlin has certainly influenced my tastes. I also really love Motown & 80s synth-pop e.g Soft Cell & The Human League.
I used to listen to bands like The Pixies & The Deftones in my youth!

I'm not really a "lists" guy but there are a few films which I really loved including The Third Man (film noire is always good), Burnt by the Sun (Russian film which won an oscar in the 90s) & The Godfather. Also any Hitchcock films or anything with Jimmy Stewart. I've watched many series (product of misspent youth haha) & am a big fan of The Wire, the Sopranos, Deadwood, The Thick of It, Nathan Barley, Curb your Enthusiasm etc.
It's a golden age of TV. So much to choose from...

I love reading about Science & Psychology - I'm a big fan of Steven Pinker's books. I'm interested in the way evolutionary biology shapes our lives in the present day. I read fiction now & again - I loved Hunger by Knut Hamsun & One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest, both of which I read on my last trip in South America.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've been lucky enough to travel solo in many places - including South America (twice), the Balkans & Georgia (the country).

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you how to program if that's something you might be interested in! Of course I can also offer native English if anyone wants to exchange languages. I'm quite into Calisthenics so I could also teach this.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I enjoy a good conversation & try to be a good listener. A sense of humour perhaps? Only others can confirm this!
