About Me

I love the chance encounter of meeting new people, regardless of it just being for an evening or for something that blossoms into a genuine friendship. I see my life as an opportunity to explore everything the world has to offer be it culture, nature, architecture, cuisine, art or just a lovely conversation.

One of my favorite things to do is to just saunter about and take in my surroundings; there's beauty in everything and getting the opportunity to see it for myself is what I devote a big part of my life to.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

While traveling, I use Couchsurfing to connect with locals who can entertain my desire to experience their culture detached from the veil of commercialized tourism. At the same time I want to do whatever I can to make sure that any travelers passing through my area have a safe space to regroup before heading out for their next adventure.

Music, Movies, and Books

My taste in everything is rather wide so I'll just throw some abstract answers out there so you, if you're actually reading this, can get a general feel of my preferences.

Music: I have a few soft spots but generally I'm very open-minded and enjoy most genres. I do tend to avoid mainstream radio, though. And yes, I know that makes me sound like a pretentious prick!

Movies: Drama, romance and adventure where the emphasis is slow-burn. I tend to dislike movies where you get bombarded by sensory overloading.

Books: I tend to lean towards philosophy, psychology and sociology although I do love the period-piece classics.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Broke my collarbone by falling in sand.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm quite out-going and a walking encyclopedia from going down one too many rabbit-holes. If you'll allow me, I can offer monologues about the most useless things! With graphs and everything!

What I Can Share with Hosts

What I can share is hopefully a deep and meaningful friendship. I can come across as quite forward in breaking down the initial shallowness of a new encounter. As I see it, life is too short to dance around shyness and awkwardness. I have no problem with entertaining myself if a potential host values their personal space.

It's generally important for me with clear and direct verbal communication about rules, boundaries and any eventual transgression of this - as long as it's respectful and a two-way street. I'm more inclined to be thankful towards the host than offended as meeting it head on indicates, for me, that the host is congruent in opening up their home to strangers more so than anything else.
