About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To lay to rest the rampant wanderlust that has taken hold of me. Though I will battle it until I can fight no more, I will be honest, I hope it puts up a long fight.

ABOUT ME

I'm a mid-twenties person of my generation looking to widen my gaze on the scope of the world. While my studies finished with the broader ideas of human interaction, my passion is in history and storytelling. The great empires of the world, their rise, golden ages and falls, interest me nearly more than anything.

The best way to find out more about the world, the people that live in it and, in the end, myself is to see as much of it as I can.

I'm a studied and careful listener whose mind is always going in a thousand directions at once. I'm friendly, accommodating and easy to get along with. I'm never one to impose and love to hear stories and go out on adventures as well as try new things (unless it's fish, not a fan).

PHILOSOPHY

You hear more when you listen than when you speak.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

A friend of mine decided to investigate couchsurfing and on our last trip (Amsterdam, Prague and Ireland) we did almost all our housing through fellow couchsurfers (last night was spent in a hostel, almost did the sweep). The experience was better than my reservations were expecting and I saw more and did more than I would have had I been holed up in a hostel or, heaven forbid, a hotel. I intend to try and make all my future travels this way because you experience things not as a tourist but as a person.

When it comes to hosting, I'm equally willing to reciprocate the same services others would be willing to offer me. I don't feel like I live anyplace special but from the outside looking in that picture might be quite different. I'm always willing to share stories and good times with anyone willing.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

As I mentioned, a friend and I did couchsurfing on our last trip with a total of 7 different hosts over about two weeks. We met young and old (only in age, not in spirit) and met a wide range of personalities but every single one was inviting and warm.

Interests

I enjoy writing, reading (typically the news, though comics and graphic novels are a good aside), some video game playing, going out for a run or just generally hanging about.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love most forms of cinema and would name among my favorite films the likes of Seven Samurai, The Hidden Fortress, Schindler's List, Airplane!, From Russia With Love, Pulp Fiction, Master and Commander, No Country For Old Men, L.A. Confidential and Who Framed Roger Rabbit? A good mix, I'd say.

For music I keep to rock, mostly classic, with some trance, techno and film scores mixed in too.

Books, I like history, graphic novels (Preacher, Watchmen, Sin City) and Ian Fleming.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Thinking back to my travels I can think of two times when it really hit me. On would be climbing Mount Lycabettus in Athens when it was close to 110 degrees Fahrenheit. My companions were not too happy at first with the idea of trekking upwards but climbing up and down was a fun experience anyway.

Next would be in Prague when our host took us to a museum exhibit showing the life the blind lead. Going around environments in total darkness with a guide speaking only Czech was such a different world that I still recall it to this today.

Teach, Learn, Share

I just enjoying learning about cities and people. As I do enjoy writing, fiction mostly, I love having a bulk of information to pull from when I do create. Be it people, places or experiences.

When it comes to teaching, well, I can't dance or sing or play any instrument well so if you were looking for that I apologize. I do generally have a good knowledge of "most things" and love to share experiences and insights I have gained.
