About Me

CURRENT MISSION

I am in graduate school for dance, which is about the most amazing thing ever - making art, articulating my values, growing, etc.

ABOUT ME

I grew up in Raleigh, North Carolina and am currently living in Western Massachusetts studying, teaching, and making dance. Previous to that I worked as a psychotherapist for folks with addictions and as a massage therapist and dance teacher. I haven't traveled a whole lot in recent years, but soon I'll be traveling to Zaragoza, Spain, and Montreal, Canada to do some movement trainings. Having a free place to stay with a local person would be so amazing.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I couch-surfed more when I was in my early 20s doing long bicycle tours all over the United States. It's been awhile, but I am excited to be back. I have done a little bit of hosting when I was living in Raleigh, NC a few years ago.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I just had my first CS experience in Florida - I surfed for 8 days in Bonita Springs, Florida while at a continuing education workshop for massage therapy. it was great - I don't know that I would have been able to afford to go to the training without CS.
Previously, I have used a similar network, Warm Showers, which is specifically for touring cyclists, and had some excellent experiences.

Music, Movies, and Books

Here are some things I've enjoyed recently:

Books:

-Lest innocent blood be shed: the story of the village of Le Chambon and how goodness happened there-- amazing story about the French Resistance.
-The Warmth of Other Suns-- about the "Great Migration" of African Americans from the South to the cities of the North and West. When I read the book I was working with elderly people in Seattle, many of whom moved there to escape conditions in the South.
-Cold Mountain - I read this on a bike trip across North Carolina - the main character is also an a journey across the state.
-White Teeth
-The Grapes of Wrath, Tortilla Flat (Steinbeck).

Movies:
-One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest
-You, Me, and Everyone We Know
-Hocus Pocus-- halloween classic!
-Tree of Life

Music: The best is to be around friends and playing music. I have basic (BASIC) ukelele skills. I like folksy music, blues, old time, backporch music on NPR, indie/alt rock, some hip-hop, salsa and bachata music, and music from around the world. Music that makes me want to move. Music that moves me. My mom plays classical piano, and was always practicing when I was growing up-- that music is really comforting and beautiful.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I have ridden my bicycle down the West Coast of the United States!
