About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To wake up everyday smiling, no matter where I am.

ABOUT ME

I'm one of those people that once believed in life plans, but was then given the opportunity to not have one and realized that it can more fun to go without. I am easy going, friendly and full of smiles. I love meeting new people and having them show me their way of life or favourite things to do. I am all about traveling to a destination, all the while keeping the obvious tourist stamp on my forehead to minimum visibility. I want to leave every place I go with a better understanding of how people live. I enjoy singing, and playing a little bit of ukulele, although I am still learning, and seeing concerts and shows. I love cooking without a recipe and crafting without a purpose. I love traveling and can't wait to meet all the awesome people on the way.

PHILOSOPHY

When you have been wearing socks all day, and when the end of the day arrives, hop into bed you keep them on under the covers for an extra five minutes, and then remove them. One of the best feelings in the world is when you swoosh your toes around after they have been freed from your socks. If you think about that feeling, and how little it took to achieve that, it can remind you to enjoy the little things and to always give yourself a break from the binds of life. After all don't most people love sandals?

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I think the CS project is great because it connects people from all over the world by allowing us to share our homes and cultures with people we otherwise would have likely never met. I, unfortunately, don't have a couch at the moment as I am about to head out traveling, but when I do, you will see my name up here offering it up to those looking for a place to stay!!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

My first real couch surfing experience, although not setup through the CS project was when my travel partner and I stayed at a girl's apartment with her in Beijing last summer. We had never met but were connected through some distant common friends. Despite not knowing either of us, she kindly offered up her living room to us. She met us outside her work on the day we arrived and gave us the key to her place. She was so trusting and her place was beautiful. After crashing in hostels for over two months, it was so amazing to be in a home again. We became great friends and still keep in contact to this day. I couldn't have asked for a better experience!

Interests

music, crafting, ukelele learning, dancing, learning new words (in any language really) reading, writing, getting lost, finding yourself again at some point, sleeping on couches.

Music, Movies, and Books

Books:
Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close - Jonathan Safran Foer
Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy - Douglas Adams
Anything written by author Ivan E. Coyote

Music: I like a bit of everything, I have playlists for acoustic songs, serious dance, and classic 1940s style tunes. I also have a soft spot for old school punk from the 70s and old school hiphop fro the 80s/90s. I'm always looking for new stuff to listen to.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Backpacked through Southeast Asia with only a return ticket planned and nothing else.

Teach, Learn, Share

I make my own jewelry and sell it as a side project. I tutor English with plans of becoming a teacher in the future. I would love to learn to speak Japanese and to know about wine, as I know nothing about this fine subject!
