One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
In Montanita, Ecuador, a friend and I were sitting on the beach, drinking a beer and waiting for a crab to come out of it's hole, far from town. Two men walked by, one had a bike with a wagon attached to the front of it. They mentioned that a sea turtle needed help getting past the breaking point and they needed help to lift it. We walked an hour with them, found the sea turtle, it had started to storm. We all lifted up this beautiful, ancient creature and swam with it out into the stormy sea and helped it along it's way. The tide had come in so we were unable to get back to town. The one with the bike walked with us through a swamp in the increasing darkness to get to the highway. The sky was purple, there were fireflies scattered amongst the sky, we sat on the rickety wagon out front. Transport trucks honked loudly at us as we biked home, we sometimes drove into the ditch... One of the most amazing nights of my life.
