About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Discover if the Earth really is round.

ABOUT ME

I Caught the traveling bug during my 5 years in the Navy and I haven't lost it in the 5 years since. I get bored often, so I'm find myself with random hobbies. Some last a while and some don't. The outcome isn't so much the goal, as is the process and learning something new. A good book and music is all I really need to be on vacation. I don't smoke and I have a new found appreciation for cats. I don't watch much TV so my pop culture and current events knowledge is lacking. I figure if it really is that important someone will tell me. Besides that just ask.

PHILOSOPHY

The surest way to corrupt a youth is to instruct him to hold in higher esteem those that think a like then those that think differently.

Music, Movies, and Books

All of it.If I had to pick one it would be Modest Mouse, Rise Against and anything live.. well almost anything. Again if I had to pick only one book I go with Ray Bradbury's fahrenheit 451, Aldous Huxley's Brave New World, José Saramago Blindness and Ernesto Guevara's Motorcycle Diaries.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

We surfaced for a swim call somewhere between Hawaii and Japan. Only blue sky and ocean in every direction, the nearest land was over a thousand miles away. It might have been the long deployment that preceded the swim call(60 days submerged) but the whole scene was beautiful and scary at the same time. As the rest of the crew used the submarine's sail as a diving board, I swam out a little further to be alone and watch the horizon, I did that until it was my turn to rotate back on board. I was only out there for about an hour but gave me a sense of how big the world really is and how so very small we are compared to it.
