About Me

I am a graduate student in Linguistics, primarily interested in the structure of language. Most of my research involves field work (working with speakers of understudied languages). I love meeting new people, music, and getting outside.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I love to travel (even when its not completely affordable). Couchsurfing is a perfect way to travel, meet people, and not go broke in the process. I haven't used couchsurfing very much, but in principle find it to be a great service.

Interests

I am a PhD student of linguistics, and thus am really interested in people and languages. I am especially interested in West Africa and Central Asia.

I enjoy hiking and exploring the outdoors. I have done a number of 3-4 day backpacking trips and look forward to finding an even longer trip.

Music, Movies, and Books

I really enjoy Jazz fusion, metal, rock, among others. I used to be a huge snob when it comes to music, but have softened on the issue as I've gotten older.

I enjoy movies and books, but have found it really hard to find time and energy for novels since I've been in graduate school. My movie and television tastes are really all over the place - if it's good, I like it!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I have done a linguistic field trip that nearly spanned 4 months. During this time, I spent 1 month in Kazakhstan, a week in Poland/Germany, 1 month in Kazan, Russia (even got to see the world cup), followed by a week in Turkey, and 6 weeks in Ghana. It was a very productive trip for my research and one of the most enlightening experiences I've had!

Teach, Learn, Share

As a graduate student, I am really passionate about language and cognition. I am therefore happy to have very long conversations about related issues. I also enjoy hearing about other people's experiences!

Countries I’ve Visited

Austria, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, Ghana, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Nigeria, Norway, Peru, Poland, Portugal, Russian Federation, Slovakia, Sweden, Turkey, United Kingdom
