About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Let it be

ABOUT ME

I'm something of an ascetic and a dreamer. I'm into books and chats and movement. I'm out there to listen and to learn, drink tea, hear stories and to dance and to play. I've studied a few languages but gotten good at none of them. I've spent a lot of time trying to be many things but lately the humor of it all has come back and all I have is to be and to feel and to just take it all in.

PHILOSOPHY

Doing stuff for the purpose of things is it. Trying things because they are new. Movement. Or perhaps it's something fails us: words, I think. Following the current as it carries and melting into the stream like snow in springtime. Dancing and loving, having faith in the way things are as well as the way things are going. Peace. Of mind and self and the world at large. And being groovy and fly to one another.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've been fed, carried, drugged and enlightened all across the east. I've played provider in NYC a bit as well. My preferred mode of travel is by thumb, so my participation is either deliberate or accidental wherever the drivers end up dropping me.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Accidentally at first. Then it became a hobby, then a lifestyle, then it slowly gave way to bullet holes in Bosnia and distant memories of when computers and surfers were there and warm. But before that, before the great hike to Sarajevo, it was all roses and pirogi. Now I'm older and my experience has all just been lovely and I'm full of appreciation.

Interests

Love and feeling groovy. Beyond that, I really like to dance though I'm not too coordinated. I love music but can barely play it. I adore singing but am not allowed to do it when others' ears are at stake. I live like an ascetic, carrying almost nothing with me, but interested entirely in immersing into whatevers around. I like journeying a lot, but I've been very shy for much of my life, so recently, it seems, the journey have been more about opening my self up than going places (it's amazing how easy it is to go places without really being there)

Music, Movies, and Books

All of them, it, and them, especially the latter latter.

Proust, Dostoevsky, Joyce, Kesey, Beckett, Flaubert, Tom Robbins, Tao te Ching, Bruce Chatwin's Songlines, Whitman's Leaves of Grass, Winnie the Pooh, Marquez' 100 Years of Solitude... those are my all-time favorites, but let's just say I love to read, enjoy nearly everything I pick up, and am always open to new perspectives to get acquainted with.

I like folk music and jazz, dance music and rock. Bob Dylan and Modest Mouse, Bob Marley and the Felice Brothers, Bon Iver and MGMT - whatever is playing around, I can sink my self into.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Midnight sun in Alaska, spinning with Sufis in Turkey.

Teach, Learn, Share

I know a lot about tea, I used to teach skiing and English. I've read a lot, and know a fair amount about modern philosophy and literary and cultural theory. But those are very formal things. I prefer to just share hearts and lives and see what chemistry exists between two strangers.

I want to learn the things that only locals know about their cities and maybe practical skills. I'm terribly useless when it comes to physical skills and growing/fixing/maneuvering things. I also would love to learn language bits but mostly, how to play music. I've been terrible at it for so long and the time has come where it's taken center stage in my priorities.
