About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To stop getting lost everytime I try to go somewhere in HK!

ABOUT ME

I love learning new styles of cooking and eating new foods. I'm really looking forward to having a full kitchen to be able to cook for friends. I also am really hoping to learn more about Chinese cooking - how to make dumplings that don't explode that are bigger than my pinky nail (baffling at the moment) and how to move beyond a basic stir fry. I'd also really love to learn to use a Chinese cleaver properly!

If you live in HK and are a native/fluent English speaker and would be interested in coming to a free dinner in the NT on Tuesdays from 6:30 - 8:30, please contact me!

PHILOSOPHY

Some of the best experiences of my life have happened somewhat by accident - walking down a road in Paris until I found an area with absolutely no other tourists and having bread fresh out of the oven or finding an elephant just in the middle of the road in Bangkok. Nothing terribly unusual, but good memories I couldn't have planned.
I've also been incredibly lucky with strangers helping me. I spent a few weeks in a French hospital when I was 17 after a motorcycle shattered my leg and there is no way I could have negotiated life there without the kindness of strangers. I've had similar experiences when I got an infection in Cambodia or hit serious difficulties while doing research in London. I try to mirror the generosity I've had shown to me.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've just moved here, so I'm not quite ready to host (unless you're open to me not really understanding how my own remote works or us getting lost together!). I am really eager to meet people here, however. I'm always up for a meal, a snack or some crazy new adventure.

Interests

I'm a pretty open minded, easy going person and I really enjoy new things, whether it's a type of music, a random alley to wander down or a performance, I'm up for just about anything.

My true passion is for Early Modern English history (think Elizabeth I, Cromwell, etc.), but it's a little hard to indulge outside of a classroom or to chat about over coffee. If you happen to be into British history or anything in that time period, please say hello!

I would also categorize myself as a francophile. I've studied French for years (though I haven't had the opportunity for a decent conversation or study in 3 years now) and I landed myself in a French hospital for a few weeks - Parisians, despite their crusty reputation, were extremely kind and generous to me. So, I'm always seeking to learn more about France or practice my French (though please be patient if I'm rusty at first!)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Seeing the sunrise at Angkor Wat was one thing that I'll never forget. I thought it would be hokey and touristy, but it was humbling, unique and exquisitely beautiful.

Climbing Uluru/Ayers Rock wasn't bad either!
