About Me

I'm a passionate outdoorsman born and raised in South Dakota. Growing up, I spent most of my time on the flatter, eastern side of the state, but every summer I found myself pulled west to the wonderful forests and peaks that make up the Black Hills. I enjoyed them so much I made the choice to study on the outskirts of these beautiful Black Hills at the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology. This has led me to meet some awesome and super smart people in my field of chemical engineering and several interesting folks around the area. I learned many of them share my interests and has made me feel very welcome here.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I joined couchsurfing as a way to travel and network while studying in Europe. My very good friend Rosemary and I decided to study a course in Darmstadt, Germany in our final semester of university, and were both fervently intrigued in the beautiful European countryside we decided to begin travelling extensively in the surrounding region as well as a couple sites in Norway so that we may visit our friends also studying in Oslo.

Interests

I'm often found outdoors hiking, fishing, or cycling- but my passion lies in rock climbing even though I may be an amateur, but that doesn't stop me from finding excuses to go out and play. As an engineer, I'm always interested in science and learning more about how the world works. Learning about other cultures and other languages has always fascinated me as well, and is one of the big factors in deciding to try out couchsurfing. I'm also huge fan of music, especially metal which you'll find me listening to most of the time. In my teenage high school years I even had the long hair to match!

Music, Movies, and Books

Music is my biggest passion in life. I'm a huge metalhead and like it anywhere from super hard and fast bands like Slayer or Kreator to slow and groovy like Candlemass or Solstafir. Whenever the cold takes hold in winter, my roommates and I also like to watch a lot of movies. I'm also big into fantasy books, and am a bit of a Tolkien fanatic.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

After 15 years of living in South Dakota and several months of working at our one and only worthwhile national monument, I finally got to scale the summit of Mount Rushmore!

Teach, Learn, Share

While most of my knowledge in confined to chemistry and music, I'm always looking for recipes to make for my roommates who are always hungry. I also have a growing interest in homebrewing beer and will gladly accept any wisdom from any veterans.

What I Can Share with Hosts

In our house, I'll do my best to treat you to supper with my 6 member family of roommates. At night, you're welcome to sleep on any one of our four couches and facilities. Transportation willing, I will also try to give you a local's tour of the adjoining Black Hills, especially if it involves any hiking or climbing.
