About Me

CURRENT MISSION

I'm teaching myself and others about the natural world and the amazing, healing, hilarous ways we can be in relationship with the Earth!

ABOUT ME

I live in the Great State of Maine, where everything is beautiful and we're working to create self-sufficiency on all levels.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'm new to couch surfing in the website-based sense, but have stayed on and offered many many couches over years of travel. I'm trying out this website to see if it's something I feel comfortable with, and at the moment will likely be doing more hosting than surfing myself, since I'm pretty rooted in a lovely home in a lovely community at the moment.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I'm forever meeting strangers and either staying with them or inviting them to stay with me... it's one of the best and most fun parts of being a traveller. Perhaps my favourite experience of this nature was a time when I got lost walking from one town to another in rural Guinee, and ended up showing up on a family's doorstep in the pouring rain, speaking only 6 words of their language, and with no idea where I was or how to get where I was going. They, of course, took me in and gave me their biggest grass hut, a basket of mangoes, and even brought an interpreter (who spoke Wolof, a language I knew better), to introduce me to their village leaders. We ended up all singing songs since that was something we could do despite the language barrier, and they showed me which stream to use to fill my water bottle in the morning before I went on my way. Have a feeling I wouldn't find those folks on this website, but I'm hoping there's a similar sense of humour, and of generosity.

Interests

I'm interested in learning more about social change,
conflict resolution, oppression & privilege, personal growth,
gender, political systems, and other sorts of Big Talk... however, I
tend to discuss these subjects with frequent interspersal of silly jokes, drawing attention to various birds, and dry remarks... and I get distracted easily.

Music, Movies, and Books

I really enjoy making music, singing, dancing, drumming, etc. Books are a huge part of my life... Novels are my good friends, and I like non-fiction of various sorts. Movies? Pretty rare, but every now and then I'm willing to watch a good one that doesn't involve traumatizing images. Would love to sing, talk about books, do puzzles, or play games with you!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I was amazed at the fact that I healed a super deep cut on my finger using only ashes, balsam fir pitch, sphagnum moss, spruce rootlets, and white pine bark.

Teach, Learn, Share

I teach wilderness survival skills and nature connection-- I love harvesting wild food, tracking animals, making things out of wood, building shelters and sleeping in them, picking up dead animals and using their parts, singing, climbing trees, playing games, and all the other things that make us truly human. Yay!
